Job Description:
The Client is seeking for a 508 Accessibility and WCAG QA Engineer to help ensure compliance with Section 508 and WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) accessibility requirements. This role will involve evaluating, recommending, and applying accessibility policies and procedures for the House’s web applications and products, particularly to aid visually impaired constituents.
Key Responsibilities:
Testing and Compliance:
Conduct web accessibility testing, including semi-automated scans, manual reviews, keyboard-only navigation, and screen reader testing (using JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, Talkback).
Analyze accessibility non-compliance issues and guide their resolution.
Create compliance checklists, plans, and remediation actions.
Collaboration and Reporting:
Work closely with Web Systems teams to ensure accessibility compliance is integrated into development processes.
Provide training, guidance, and status reports on accessibility best practices and compliance progress.
Support Agile SCRUM teams to assess business requirements and ensure accessibility is considered in user stories and test criteria.
Documentation and Policy Support:
Assist in the development and maintenance of accessibility-related documentation, including progress reports, compliance strategies, and best practices.
Advise and support teams working on new technologies and products to integrate accessibility measures from the early stages of development.
Mobile Accessibility:
Conduct mobile accessibility testing using specialized tools to ensure conformance on both iOS and Android platforms.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
5+ years in IT and software QA with a focus on Section 508 and WCAG compliance.
Proven experience using assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnification software, or voice recognition software.
Experience with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and mobile development.
Strong familiarity with accessibility testing tools such as JAWS, NVDA, Talkback, VoiceOver, and others.
Skills:
Ability to assess and resolve accessibility issues across web and mobile platforms.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-profile, fast-paced environment.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience:
10+ years in IT and software QA with a focus on Section 508 and WCAG compliance.
Expertise in Drupal accessibility testing and migration from Drupal 10 to 11.
Familiarity with accessibility management tools like ClickUp and Site Improve.
Additional Skills:
Strong understanding of accessibility guidelines and their integration into the development lifecycle.
Ability to evolve skill sets and quickly adapt to new technologies.
