Summary

Estes Energetics is strengthening the defense industrial base by revitalizing the manufacturing of solid rocket motors. In support of this work, Estes Energetics is searching for a quality technician at our Colorado production facility near Colorado Springs. The quality technician will support rocket motor manufacturing processes, testing, and energetic assembly operations. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of operations experience in manufacturing, chemical production, laboratory operations or similar field.

Essential Functions

This job requires working with explosives. Teamwork is especially important here in all aspects of the job as we strive for safety.
Work with the engineering and operations team to develop and test solid rocket motor and energetic manufacturing systems.
Conduct Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Work Instruction (WI), and other controlled document revisions for Quality processes
Working with engineering to write and execute Change Controls for Quality processes
Work with engineering on any deviation/investigation related to energetics and conduct audits per company QMS
Support evaluation of energetics and process equipment through laboratory testing and NDT methods.
Support manual and automated production tasks including accurate measurement of chemicals, operation of production machinery, material handling, processing of energetic material, maintaining production records, and compliance with established procedures.
Special projects as assigned by management.
Attend all required meetings and provide clear, professional verbal and email communications.
Work safely by accurately and strictly following established standard operating procedures and following safety rules.
Maintain a clean and orderly working environment.

Competencies, Experience, and Education

Required

Associate degree in a technical field or applicable technical experience in a manufacturing setting.
Minimum of 2 years of operations experience in manufacturing, chemical production, laboratory operations, or similar field.
Prior experience manufacturing or working with explosives.
Prior experience in quality management.
Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses, including:
Be 21 years of age or older.
Pass pre-employment drug test.
Pass State and Federal background checks.
Eagerness to learn new ideas and put them into practice.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Desired

Background in aerospace quality manufacturing
Current/prior NDT Level I, II, or III experience.
Experience with handling and testing of energetic materials.
Experience with automated manufacturing systems.
CAD/CAM programming and CNC machine operation.

Supervisory Responsibility

None.

Work Environment

The work will be primarily in manufacturing environments. Time will be spent working with energetic chemicals and explosives.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Comfortable sitting, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
Exposure to industrial machines, heat, cold, and explosives.
Frequent movement through a manufacturing environment.
Use of personal protective equipment appropriate to the work location.

Travel

0-10% for training and continued learning

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical workdays are on a 5-day week. Employees are expected to work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional overtime may be required during busy periods.
