Summary: Manages product quality while promoting products, concrete knowledge and Company image to customers by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

*Visits job sites, attends pre-pour meetings and calls on customers promoting value-added products, collecting market and job information.

*Supervises and plans for efficient use of materials, equipment and employees.

*Performs ongoing ACI & ASTM concrete and raw materials testing. Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures. Evaluates data, writes reports and generates graphs and charts to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.

* Evaluates existing quality or productions standards and procedures, recommends modifications and leads their implementation.

*Reviews and supervises the work of Concrete Testing Services.

*Trains operating personnel on product quality, features and benefits.

* Advises upper management on product development issues arising from product problems identified through technical support calls with customers.

* Conducts audits and makes ongoing improvements to the Quality Performance System.

*Completes all required paperwork (reports, forms, letters, etc.).

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

Degree from college, university or technical school and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Laboratory Technician

SCOPE

Implement and comply with quality assurance methods and procedures to ensure products and materials are produced in accordance with specifications.

GOAL

To maximize effectiveness of quality assurance procedures, ensure material production standards are met, and provide customers with high quality products.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Laboratory Technician reports to the Technical Services Manager who will perform periodic performance appraisals of the Laboratory Technician.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Perform specimen tests of concrete from random loads or for special jobs or mixes; pick up job site samples for testing; prepare test reports as required.

Perform aggregates and batch plants tests including daily graduation and moisture tests on all concrete being produced for State and spec projects.

Perform laboratory tests including gradation, moisture, lightweight particles and specific gravity tests on aggregates; compile data for computerized statistical reports on concrete and aggregates.

Select samples for materials that need certification by an outside laboratory or that are beyond the department capability. Transport these samples to the testing agency.

Perform quality assurance tests on trial batches of new concrete mix designs under close tolerance conditions and make adjustments until mixture meets specifications.

Perform additional tasks such as cleaning facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness, moving equipment and materials, and completing tasks for other positions when incumbent is absent.

REQUIREMENTS

Position requires individual with high school diploma or equivalent; or the candidate must be participating in a high school co-op/internship program; or the candidate must be participating in an official college co-op/internship program.

Basic typing and computer skills required.

Individual must be presentable with a neat, well-groomed appearance. Necessary personality traits and mental abilities include personable, mature, well spoken with a good command of the English language, enthusiastic, pleasant, organized, and the ability to work in a sometimes stressful and hectic environment.

Must show a sincere interest in our industry and future employment opportunities within or organization and/or industry.

Must have a current driver’s license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to frequently bend in order to obtain samples from stockpiles or ground, climb ladders with buckets of admixtures, and push wheelbarrows of concrete.

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds several times a day.

Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment.

Must be able to transport oneself to different plant and customer sites.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
