Position Overview

The FSQA Lead is responsible for maintaining Quality Assurance documentation, identifying and correcting documentation deficiencies, assisting with developing and implementation of training, and providing general support to the QA team. In addition, the FSQA Lead is responsible for reviewing daily production, approving and releasing product, updating and tracking on hold product, working with operations on quality, packaging or raw material issues.

Essential Functions

Trains and coaches QA technicians in accordance to outlined essential functions in QA technician job description.
Works with QA supervisor to provide additional training as needed for technicians.
Collaborates with QA and Operations management to investigate and help solve problems on the production floor.
Completes pre-operational inspection validations for QA technicians. Flexible training and coaching technicians on pre-operational inspections for both shifts.
Performs weekly or monthly checks for outlined Pre-Requisite Programs.
Assist with internal audits as needed.
Assists R&D team with new product development during trial runs. Works with QA supervisor to outline quality checks and additional responsibilities for QA technicians to perform in new production areas.
Maintains or facilitates QA laboratories are adequately stocked and organized in accordance with 5S Lean.
Documents and files retain logs and foreign material deviations. Controls hard documents for quality assurance, sanitation and operations.
Actively participate in continuous improvement, lean practices, six sigma, 5S, food safety, environmental and plant safety programs.
Assists QA Specialist in approvals and releasing product, following our positive release policies.
Capable performing functions of QA technician as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Knowledge

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to read, write, and speak English to properly understand and relay important safety and quality information.
Familiar with USDA and FDA regulations, guidelines and interaction with regulatory entities.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, team environment.
Must be able to successfully complete PCQI, HACCP and SQF Certification.
Demonstrate ability to actively participate in a positive and engaged team atmosphere.
Work well with others to establish and maintain excellent interdepartmental relationships.
Familiarity with lab safety and handling of hazardous materials.
Dependable and have a flexible schedule. Will work different shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
MS Office proficiency with the ability to analyze, input, graph, trend and report data in a detailed and understandable manner.
Must have a high attention to detail.

Education & Experience

2+ years of Food Plant Quality Assurance experience
1+ year of people leadership experience preferred
5+ years of production experience may substitute for the QA experience or demonstrated proficiency in Quality Systems.
Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
Food Industry Experience a plus
Associates degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Physical Requirements

Able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs occasionally; 20 lbs frequently.
Able to stand for extended periods of time (10-12 hours per day): One 30-minute break, two 15-minute breaks
Able to reach overhead, bend, stoop, and squat
Able to report to work without absences or tardiness. Able to work overtime as necessary.
Good manual dexterity and capable of performing repeated actions with hands/fingers
Able to work in hot or cool conditions for duration of the shift.
Comfortable with a moderate noise level
Not allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, gluten, or dairy
Able to work with or near machinery that produces a magnetic field, such as metal detectors/inductors
Able to abide by food safety and human safety guidelines:
Any health condition does not pose a risk to the safety of the food being produced or a risk of transmitting the condition to fellow coworkers
Able to wear appropriate attire (smock, hair net, latex-free gloves)
Able to work in an alert and careful manner (e.g. if taking prescription drugs, these prescription drugs do not cause side-effects [such as dizziness or drowsiness] that may affect the employee’s ability to work safely)
Eye vision is at level that would not cause unsafe working conditions. Eye glasses/contact lenses are permitted.

Able to use computers, i-Pads, and smart phones.
