Job Title: Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager
Classification: Exempt full-time
Reporting to: VP of QA and Continuous Improvement
Position Backup: Director of Quality Assurance and Sanitation
A. PURPOSE
The FSQA Manager leads and manages food safety and quality programs across all manufacturing operations at Del Real Foods in Mira Loma, CA. This individual ensures all products meet or exceed safety, quality, and regulatory standards through scientifically sound systems and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in food science, microbiology, or biochemistry, and a track record of success in food manufacturing within the CPG sector
B. DUTIES

1. Own and maintain the FDA Food Safety Plan, hazard analysis, process flow diagrams, and preventive controls.
2. Own and maintain the USDA HACCP Program, including critical control points (CCPs) and prerequisite programs.
3. Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and all relevant local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
4. Oversee sanitation, environmental monitoring, and allergen control programs.
5. Lead internal and third-party audits, regulatory inspections, and mock recall exercises.
6. Conduct validation and verification activities related to food safety controls, such as kill steps, preventive controls, and environmental monitoring.
7. Manage all quality systems and documentation to meet Del Real Foods specifications and SQF certification requirements.
8. Monitor and test raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods to ensure quality and consistency.
9. Lead resolution of quality issues and product non-conformances.
10. Oversee customer complaint investigations and implement root cause analysis and CAPAs.
11. Coordinate with R&D on product shelf-life studies and sensory evaluations
12. Ensure compliance with certifications including Organic, Non-GMO, and Gluten-Free.
13. Demonstrate knowledge and oversight of FDA regulations for acidified and low-acid foods.
14. Manage raw material supplier performance, including compliance assessments and addressing quality concerns.
15. Lead, train, and mentor the QA and food safety team, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
16. Conduct training for plant employees on food safety, GMPs, and quality policies.
17. Champion a proactive food safety and quality mindset across all departments
18. Use data and analysis to identify trends, investigate root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
19. Collaborate with Operations, R&D, and Supply Chain to drive performance improvements and reduce defects.
20. Report and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) including customer complaints, product holds, and audit scores
Specific Skills and Abilities Required
1) Technical expertise in food microbiology, safety systems, and regulatory compliance.
2) Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
3) Effective communicator speaking & written with the ability to collaborate across functions and levels to achieve organizational goals.
4) Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
PCQI and HACCP certified.
Must have SQF Practitioner certification or advanced SQF training.
In-depth knowledge of GMP, FDA/USDA regulations, and food safety standards.
Green Belt in Lean 6 Sigma preferred
LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum 5 years in a food manufacturing QA or Food Safety leadership role, preferably in a CPG environment.
Proven ability to lead audits, manage regulatory inspections, and implement robust food safety systems.
Demonstrated experience developing and coaching QA teams in a high-volume facility.
Experience handling raw meat materials, supplier performance and addressing compliance or quality concerns.
Hands-on experience designing FDA Food Safety Plans and USDA HACCP Plans.
Experience ensuring compliance with Organic, Non-GMO, and Gluten-Free certifications.
Knowledge of acidified and low-acid food processing regulations
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 – $120,010.00 per year
