The Laboratory Technician supports the mission of Interior Alaska Medical Clinic by providing high-quality laboratory services, including specimen collection, processing, and testing. This role is responsible for phlebotomy, routine laboratory testing under the direction of the Laboratory Director, and maintaining laboratory equipment and records. The Laboratory Technician also assists with clerical tasks and ensures accurate and timely processing of lab specimens in accordance with established protocols.

This position collaborates with patients, caregivers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to support coordinated, patient-centered care. The Technician also offers guidance and support to other CRHM team members in ensuring effective, high-quality primary care.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide clerical support to the laboratory team, including processing incoming/outgoing reports, organizing filing systems, copying documents, and preparing end-of-month statistical summaries.

Perform patient specimen testing and evaluate specimens for quality and suitability; notify supervisor of any rejected specimens per established protocols.

Accurately process all laboratory specimens, including those sent to outside reference labs, and document them in the Laboratory Information System or Electronic Health Record (EHR). Enter and verify test results.

Demonstrate proficiency in specimen collection procedures across all age groups, including newborn heel-sticks, finger-sticks, and venipuncture for pediatric and adult patients.

Conduct clinical laboratory testing in all areas under the supervision of the Lead Technician or designee.

Perform routine instrument maintenance and quality control procedures; promptly report malfunctions and corrective actions to the Supervisor or designee.

Monitor and manage laboratory inventory; order, receive, and stock supplies as needed to maintain smooth operations.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or formal training in a laboratory science preferred.

Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP or equivalent) preferred.

Previous experience in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting strongly preferred.

Proficiency with electronic health records and laboratory information systems desirable.

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
