The Quality Manager is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and monitoring adherence to the quality assurance system, including quality standards, inspection, test methods, and procedures for the organization. They determine and recommend necessary inspection and test equipment required for incoming, in-process, and final product inspections. The manager establishes and oversees various inspection and test procedures and coordinates the assembly of records necessary for quality control tracking, including charts, statistical analysis, and reports.
They plan work with direct reports, assist in determining causes for non-conforming materials and components, quality system failures, process scrap or rework, and work with department supervisors/managers to resolve quality problems.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish and maintain policy for documentation of all products
Review documentation before being sent to external customers
Implement ongoing quality improvement processes working with interdepartmental teams
Anticipate, to the extent possible, program release problems and take corrective actions to resolve and meet commitments
Escalate issues to the Director of Operations and Director of Quality as needed
Drive a data-based proactive quality culture in the plant
Evaluate and oversee the monitoring of gages and measuring devices to detect non-conforming products
Observe all in-process manufacturing levels and evaluate their adherence to established quality standards
Continuously evaluate, analyze, and improve the quality assurance system and procedures
Maintain records associated with listing agencies (CSA, IAPMO, UL)
Form teams to analyze corrective actions for defective materials
Determine disposition of scrap and rework
Prepare PPAP paperwork for customers
Develop and supervise quality technicians and auditors
Coordinate efforts with suppliers for new product development and improvements
Maintain NCMR database for the supply base
Follow safety procedures to prevent employee injury
Maintain good employee relations and communication
Perform other related duties as needed
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field
Minimum 8 years’ experience in Quality Assurance (metalworking industry preferred) or High School Diploma with 10 years’ experience in metalworking
Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience
Experience with ISO
9001, quality audits, and supplier quality
Experience implementing quality processes (Control plans, PFMEA, corrective actions)
Proficiency in problem-solving methodologies (5
Whys, 8D, Root Cause analysis)
QMS experience with PFMEA, PPAP, Control Plan
Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (discipline)
Technical experience
Machining background
Metalworking experience
