SUMMARY

Responsibilities include leading department employees to complete assigned duties in a timely manner while working safely as an effective member of the team. Leads must have good math skills, an attention for detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The Lead must also insure accurate completion of associated documents and records. Requires the ability to direct and train employees as well as monitor multiple processes simultaneously. Responsible for testing equipment, product, inspecting materials, work in process, final product, and accurately recording the findings according to procedures, instructions, engineering drawings, and training. Must evaluate rejects and product defects and make decisions regarding the status of the product based on the inspection criteria.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads employees and provides direction to complete required tasks.
Follows applicable procedures, instructions, engineering drawings, and training.
Train employees according to departmental training requirements.
Monitors employees in their jobs and assists as necessary. Assigns their jobs as needed.
Answers employee questions involved with the Lead’s respective area.
Interfaces with supervision and/or management to ensure assigned duties are completed accurately. This may include interfacing with employees in other departments.
Tests and/or inspects the quality of the equipment, materials, work in process, and final product in a timely manner according to established written Quality Department procedures, engineering drawings, and documentation. This includes critical inspection items that may affect the function of the product.
Evaluates rejects and product defects and makes decisions regarding the status of the product based on the inspection criteria. This includes evaluating the severity of the rejects.
Able to do product testing, validation, life studies, and calibrations. This could include the preparation of any paperwork associated with such tasks.
Works as an effective member of the team.
7. Ensures area is clean, organized and well maintained.
Completes all documents and records required.
Identifies non-conforming product, as necessary.
Close out work orders.
Submits maintenance requests, as needed.
Improves 5S, especially regarding cleanliness and organization of work cell.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job. Punctuality and regular attendance are crucial for efficient plant operations, safety, and morale.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as required.

AUTHORITY

Trains lower-level employees in the Lead’s respective area.
Rejects non-conforming product.
Assigns employees to jobs in the respective area.
Interfaces with other departments to ensure all quality rejects and/or problems are brought to the attention of responsible personnel.
Works on continuously improving the organization and function of the Department by suggesting procedural improvements.

Experience and Skills:

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Able to correctly inspect and test product according to instructions, engineering drawings, and training.
Able to correctly use required tools, fixtures, rulers, testing equipment, etc. involved in the testing and inspection processes.
Able to read and understand the product criteria on engineering drawings and blueprints.
Able to recognize quality problems with equipment, materials, work in process, and final product, and to inspect for critical items that may affect the function of the product.
Able to inspect product and perform all other required duties in a timely manner as outlined by department supervision and management.
Able to lead and influence others by example in the areas of attitude, work quality, work ethic, dependability, and communication.
Able to direct and train employees.
Able to work and communicate well with others.
Able to supervise multiple inspections and/or testing jobs simultaneously.
Able to complete necessary documents and records as required.
Able to read and write English.
Good work attendance and dependability.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Must be able to complete a position assessment test.

A Quality Lead assigned to the Receiving Inspection area must frequently lift and/or exert force from 25 up to 75 pounds. Push and/or pull up to 300 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

May either sit at a workstation to inspect product, or may be required to move around while inspecting (i.e. incoming inspection, shipping, etc.)
