Quality Assurance Specialist – Marine Construction & Piping Systems
Location: Port St. Joe, FL
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay Rate: $28.00 – $44.00 per hour
Per Diem: $100 – $180 per day (based on qualifications and project requirements)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Specialist with a strong background in marine construction, structural assembly, and shipboard piping systems. This role requires a quality professional who understands the installation, inspection, functionality, and integration of marine structures and piping systems, not just welding processes.
The ideal candidate will work closely with production, engineering, and customer representatives to ensure compliance with contract requirements, shipyard standards, and applicable quality procedures throughout fabrication, assembly, testing, and turnover.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections of structural fabrication, assembly, and marine piping installations.
- Verify compliance with drawings, specifications, procedures, and customer requirements.
- Conduct and document in-process and final quality inspections.
- Inspect structural assemblies, fit-up, weld preparations, and completed installations.
- Support hydrostatic testing, flushing operations, pressure testing, and system turnover activities.
- Verify material traceability, certifications, and quality records.
- Identify deficiencies and support root cause analysis and corrective action efforts.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, and customer representatives to resolve quality concerns.
- Review inspection reports, turnover packages, and production documentation.
- Participate in audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 8years of experience in shipbuilding, marine repair, naval construction, offshore fabrication, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of marine structural assembly methods and shipboard construction practices.
- Understanding of marine piping systems and system integration.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometrics, P&IDs, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications.
- Experience performing or supporting quality inspections in a manufacturing or shipbuilding environment.
- Working knowledge of welding processes including SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and GMAW.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic quality reporting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Shipyard QA/QC experience.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- NAVSEA quality experience.
- NDT certifications (VT, PT, MT, or UT).
- Experience with Carbon Steel, CuNi (Copper-Nickel), Stainless Steel, and marine piping systems.
- Experience reviewing or supporting WPS, PQR, and Welder Qualification Records.
- Military, commercial marine, or defense industry experience.
