Purpose
and Overview
The Quality Assurance Technician I will perform daily quality activities, including process audits, GMP audits, and laboratory testing to ensure ingredients and finished products meet specifications. Responsibilities include identifying quality issues, reporting them, and initiating corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (preferred)
1 year of experience/supporting plant quality and food safety programs (preferred)
Science or related background (preferred)
Lab experience (preferred)
Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals
Problem-solving skills in variable situations
Ability to work independently and with others
Knowledge of lab equipment such as water activity meters, viscometers
Basic math, record keeping, and computer skills
Key Responsibilities
Monitor, inspect, and test products in process or lab, ensuring specifications are met; record and report discrepancies
Check calibration of measuring equipment and operation of metal detectors, reporting issues immediately
Perform formula and process audits; document results
Ensure adherence to food safety and quality programs, including GMPs and Food Safety Plans
Conduct environmental swabbing as scheduled
Assist in investigating out-of-compliance products
Create a safe, inclusive work environment respecting diversity
Work around allergens such as nuts, dairy, gluten, wheat, and soy, which may fluctuate based on business needs
Physical Demands &
Work Environment
Employees must stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting up to 50 pounds is required. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. The environment may be cold or warm, with noise from machinery and potential allergen exposure.
