Upstate Steel is currently hiring a Quality Assurance Manager. We are a family-owned company and major fabricator and supplier of structural steel, sheet and plate. We service a variety of industries, including commercial contractors, home builders, municipalities, highway and bridge contractors and DOT work. Our services consist of shearing, sawing, CNC cutting, forming, rolling, and code welding. Responsibilities:
Champion a company-wide culture of quality.
Empower production staff to uphold and self-manage quality standards.
Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and related qualifications.
Conduct and oversee welder and procedure qualifications.
Create, implement, and maintain quality policies and procedures.
Conform to AISC Policy’s
Supervise and mentor inspectors, technicians, and other quality staff.
Compile and review documentation packages, including Certificates of Compliance, inspection reports, heat logs, and material certs.
Communicate quality concerns to appropriate managers and teams.
Serve as the primary contact for third-party inspectors and regulatory bodies.
Ensure continuous compliance with local, national, and international standards.
Collaborate closely with the production team to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
Ideal Qualifications:
Ideal Candidate holds a current CWI Certification
5–10 years of QA or QC experience in a steel fabrication environment
3–5 years of management or supervisory experience
Verifiable welding experience and education meeting the pre-requisites to attend CWI certification training
Familiarity with AISC standards and AWS codes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Solid mathematical skills and understanding of technical drawings
Strong leadership and organizational abilities
