Quality Engineer

HD Microsystems has an exciting and challenging opportunity for Quality Engineer based in Parlin, NJ.

The quality engineering role is intended to ensure the HDM business is upholding all aspects of the quality policy, quality management system (QMS), and ISO9001 certification requirements. This includes working closely with HDM’s customers to ensure their needs/issues are addressed, driving the current quality roadmap strategy, and working cross functionally with other departments in the business to drive and support quality expectations.

In the first 12 months of this role, the candidate will be expected to lead a team of 4 Quality Engineers against current business strategy and goals in current quality manager’s absence. After 12 months, the candidate is expected to be a lead individual contributor for the strategic vision of the organization, as described in the roles and responsibilities below.

HD MicroSystems (HDM) is a 50-50 joint venture of Resonac and DuPont. HD MicroSystems is the world’s largest supplier of polyimide and PBO precursor chemistries specifically engineered for microelectronic applications. Applied and cured by our customers, these materials transform into polyimide and PBO films with unique end use properties. HDM’s product line is broad, consisting of
photosensitive coatings, standard non-photosensitive coatings, high temperature adhesives, optically clear coatings, and a full line of complementary ancillary products.

Roles & Responsibilities
1) Owning and resolving complaints and requests from assigned customer(s): Activities include managing root cause identification, acquiring and analyzing data, and developing solution options in collaboration with other teams as necessary. The candidate should rapidly assess special customer requests and help implement according to business prioritization.
2) Drafting and communicating complaint resolution or roadmap progress to customers on a regular basis (including with global teams) in a way that is consistent with strategy and desired message.
3) Managing customer notifications. Working with global teams, you will help to write up letters / data packages or make existing data packages customer-friendly. Provide feedback from customers and work with teams to ensure implementation according to business plan.
4) The strategic aspect of the job is to serve as the voice of the customer back into the business and work across organization to prioritize customer requirements and develop strategic operations and quality roadmaps. The roadmaps will include the short & mid-term CIP efforts to continually drive improved product quality and service responsiveness to improve customer satisfaction as well, as long-term actions to help win new business for the customer emerging technology needs.
5) Serving as Quality Manager backup as needed
6) Managing Quality (changes, SPC, technical knowledge, etc.) for assigned product portfolio.
7) Leading Projects to maintain and improve Quality Management System, metrics/work processes, and Customer Satisfaction
8) Leading Quality scope within new product development including procurement, spec finalization, material qualification, etc.
9) Supporting supplier quality engineer to resolve raw material quality or supplier issues
10) Ensuring required quality related materials are prepared for repeating meetings (Ex. Tier 1 customer update meetings, supply review, etc)
11) Working with global counterpart to ensure site alignment on customer requests, projects, etc.
12) Working with manufacturing, supply chain, sales, R&D, and other HDM organizations to support quality initiatives or requested information
13) Leading ISO and Customer Audits
14) Supporting SPC initiatives and drive SPC culture within the organization
15) Determining qualification plan scope, success criteria, etc. and reviewing Change Management documents for Quality
16) Determining disposition for raw materials and final products considering impact to final product quality and end customer use

Successful candidates will have the following attributes:

Exceptional ability to build relationships- collaborate across different functions within the business and externally to deliver results
Excellent communication is required to ensure alignment between business needs/priorities, manufacturing, and our customers. Being clear, concise, and able to summarize complex cases into actionable plans is a key requirement. Additionally, being capable of crafting internal project progress into customer communications.
Excellent project leadership- candidate needs to practice Influential leadership to drive internal cross-functional actions for represented customers
Hands on and fast learner. Candidate will need to be a generalist, take the initiative to learn key project info or customer issue status quickly, and translate into external customer communication or internal feedback to drive project completion.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or a related field is required
5+ years combined experience in manufacturing, Quality or Continuous Improvement Engineering is required. Semiconductor industry or related experience desirable
Experience with External Communications to Customers is required
Demonstrated understanding of statistical techniques including DOE, Control Charts, Gage R&R, ANOVA is required
Ability to make good engineering judgments on their work is required
Required to have proficient computer skills such as advanced Excel and Powerpoint use
Experience using a statistical software program (eg, Minitab, JMP™) is required
Demonstrated experience with risk tools such as C&E and FMEAs is preferred
Polyimide related knowledge, analytical and material characterization techniques, and results interpretation skills are preferred
Experience working and managing projects in a global environment (both internal and external) with communications across cultures is preferred
6-sigma project certification is preferred.
