Quality Control Inspector – Structural Steel & Crane Systems

Handling Systems International is a growing manufacturer of custom overhead bridge cranes, runway systems, jib cranes, and material handling equipment. We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector to support our fabrication and assembly operations.
This role ensures that structural steel fabrication, welding, machining, and final assemblies meet engineered drawings, internal standards, and customer requirements.
Position Summary
The Quality Control Inspector will inspect structural weldments, machined components, and assembled crane systems prior to shipment. This position works closely with engineering, fabrication, and operations to ensure accuracy, safety, and quality.
This is a hands-on role in an industrial fabrication environment — not a desk-only position.
Responsibilities
- Inspect structural weldments for dimensional accuracy and visual weld quality
- Verify components match approved shop drawings and revisions
- Perform dimensional inspections using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, squares, and levels
- Review welds for compliance with AWS D1.1 visual standards
- Verify anchor bolt layouts, base plates, stiffeners, and structural assemblies
- Conduct pre-shipment inspections of crane systems
- Document inspections and maintain QC records
- Coordinate with engineering on non-conformance issues
- Help implement and maintain internal QC procedures
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in quality control within structural steel or heavy fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and structural drawings
- Strong understanding of welding symbols and structural weld requirements
- Familiarity with dimensional inspection tools
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 visual inspection standards
- Detail-oriented and process-driven
- Comfortable working in a shop environment around heavy steel components
