Position Summary:

The Supervisor, Quality Assurance is responsible for providing leadership, mentorship, and oversight in the efficient planning & execution of work activities as well as the development and supervision of the assigned staff members within the Quality Assurance department. This position is focused on providing “hands-on” and “boots on the ground” support to the assigned staff members and various other stakeholders. The supervisor leads by example and supports the direction of management to ensure ongoing collaboration, customer service, safety, security, and achieving the highest level of department standards which meet, and in some cases, exceed customer requirements. In partnership with the department manager, this position supports and manages quality, costs, and on-time delivery standards. This position typically reports to the Manager, Quality Assurance.

Position Responsibilities:

Partners with the department manager in executing and achieving department initiatives and metrics to ensure optimal performance & efficiency gains as well as supporting the overall business goals. Establishes and maintains metrics for safety, quality, schedule attainment, and productivity in a daily management framework.
Ensures that the assigned personnel are properly onboarded during the new hire process, mentored, motivated, and trained on an ongoing basis. Provides one-on-one coaching for development purposes when required.
Responsible for achieving department operating standards and engaging in productivity efficiencies in the form of quality, cost, and on-time delivery standards that support operational excellence. Ensures that critical procedures and quality checks are maintained which are assessed through the auditing process.
Ensures the assigned staff are knowledgeable and trained regarding department standards and ensures continual adherence to standards through audits and other monitoring processes.
Executes work activities which result in achieving customer requirements.
Establish and maintain a system of checks and measurements to ensure the respective production department facilitates optimal performance and quality as well as meet the required customer specifications. Ensure effective quality checks are in place and that inspection findings result in effective corrective action.
Keeps the department manager abreast of daily activities regarding the status of the work schedules. If there are any issues, the supervisor takes the appropriate actions in recommending to the department manager alternate ways to resolve issues and to prevent recurrence of defects.
Partners with department staff members in diagnosing and resolving daily quality assurance issues through various means which include gathering all facts, conducting analysis, and/or using effective problem-solving techniques. Escalates unresolved issues to the department manager for further discussions to minimize production flow disruptions. Monitors progress to ensure successful closures.
Conducts post project evaluations to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements for future improvement.
In partnering with the department manager, the supervisor supports and oversees the required changes to improve operational and/or business efficiencies. Fosters and supports a work environment of continuous improvement.
Responsible for providing and supporting human capital initiatives which include interviewing and selecting new talent, onboarding, mentoring, developing, coaching, upgrading talent, recognizing & rewarding top performers, establishing career progression opportunities within the department, promoting employee retention, addressing &correcting performance/behavioral issues, weeding out poor performers, setting clear goals & expectations and holding staff accountable.
Responsible for completing the performance review process which includes providing input and feedback on the assessment of employee performance, creating development plans, and completing the sit-down review session with the employee. Prior to the sit-down meeting, the supervisor obtains 2nd level approval from the department manager.
Participates in formal and/or informal meetings informing the assigned staff regarding the status of projects and other pertinent information and deliverables within the scope of this department.
Performs a variety of administrative duties which include setting up/adjusting work schedules, tracking tardies and absences, reviewing, and approving time sheets and time off requests, inputting and extracting data or information from an electronic system which may include quality assurance reports, administering disciplinary actions, recommending wage increases, promotions, demotions, suspensions, terminations, and various other administrative tasks associated with the department’s responsibilities.
Enforces and ensures that all assigned areas follow the established safe working and housekeeping procedures; promptly corrects hazardous situations. Fosters and enforces a safe working environment via strict compliance with all safety training, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
Partners with the department manager and security team to ensure all security protocols and practices comply within the assigned areas of responsibility.
Partners with the department manager and the Quality Management Systems (QMS) team in developing and maintaining department SOPs and work instructions.
Enforces and ensures that all company policies are complied with as well as all QMS standard operating procedures, work instructions, corrective action, solution verification, and ISO requirements are followed in coordination with the QMS department.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. May be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed.

Qualifications- Experience, Skills, Education & Training Required:

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is desired.
Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of equivalent experience which includes previous related supervisory duties and responsibilities in managing a quality assurance function or other related work unit from preferably within the Printing Industry.
ISO training and knowledge are desired.
Possess proficient working knowledge of quality assurance processes, procedures, and systems related to the assigned responsibilities that is essential for performing this role.
Possess proficient working knowledge of quality inspection and measurement tools such as border block and a ruler.
Possess proficient working knowledge of quality technology and best practices for process control.
Effective proficiency in using the intranet, email, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and management information systems (MIS).
Possess proficient leadership skills in the areas of human capital management, decision making, planning, analytical, problem solving, and process improvement methodologies.
Possess proficient interpersonal and influential skills to include de-escalation of personnel issues.
Possess proficient customer service, detail oriented, results-driven, and administrative skills.
Demonstrates the ability to effectively lead others and foster a productive work environment.
Possess effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of internal customers, managers, stakeholders, and subject matter experts.
Proactive work style used to communicate project status, issues, and completion plans.
Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to perform mathematical calculations – e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and various other calculations.

Work Environment:

Primarily working in a manufacturing (plant floor) environment: plant floor characterized by temperature extremes, consistent low to moderately loud noise levels, and considerable low motor traffic or moving equipment. Physical environment may require the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
May be advised or required to utilize personal protective equipment including, but not limited to ear protection, eye protection, lifting equipment, issued high-visibility safety vest, and safety shoes.
