Job Title: Quality Control Inspector

General Function
Receives, inspects, and accepts only the highest quality produce. Monitors product on hand and ensures freshness is maintained. Prepares reports and communicates with produce purchasing department.

Positions that Report to you: None
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors merchandise on hand and ensures freshness is maintained.
Controls the ripening of fruit and vegetables.
Inspects quality of all outbound fruits and vegetables.
Inspects inbound perishable product.
Prepares reports on soft fruit, bananas, and aged inventory.
Works with receivers to ensure quality of merchandise.
Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
Performs special inspections when requested by buyers.
Assists in training of warehouse employees in quality control.
Adjusts computer inventory of on hand balance when necessary.
Monitors aged inventory reports.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics
Logical or scientific thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables.
Must be able to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Must be able to compose original correspondence; follow technical manuals and have increased contact with people.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required. 1 – 3 years of similar or related work experience required; previous experience in fresh produce helpful; Retail experience preferred

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to perform heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and up to 20 feet, with or without correction and field of vision.
Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, stooping, pulling, crawling, reaching, standing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions
The duties for this position are normally conducted in a warehouse environment. There is constant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a day. There is possible exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, and equipment movement hazards.

Telephone, computers, push cart with ladder, thermometer, knife, calculator, and warehouse equipment
