We are looking for a detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector to join our team. The focus of this role is absolute accuracy—ensuring what our shop fabricates matches our fabrication drawings perfectly before it heads to the weld line or the job site.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
As our Dimensional QC Inspector, your main mission is to ensure parts are built right the first time. Your daily routine will include:
- Dimensional Verification: Check fabricated steel pieces against shop drawings to verify lengths, angles, hole patterns, bevels, and overall geometry.
- Drawing Interpretation: Read and navigate complex structural steel fabrication drawings and blueprints fluently.
- Precision Measurement: Use tape measures, squares, protractors, and calipers to verify tolerances (often within 1/8″ or tighter).
- Fit-Up Inspection: Check assemblies before final welding to catch layout mistakes early.
- Documentation: Mark approved pieces and keep simple log sheets of inspected items and any dimensional errors found.
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
- Experience: 2+ years working in a structural steel fabrication shop, layout department, or a similar heavy manufacturing environment.
- Blueprint Mastery: You must be highly proficient at reading structural fabrication drawings.
- Math Skills: Strong basic math skills (fractional math, reading a tape measure to 1/16th down to a science).
- The Sharp Eye: Caught a part flipped backwards on a drawing before? That’s the exact attention to detail we are looking for.
- Thick Skin & Good Attitude: Ability to walk up to a fabricator, tell them a dimension is off, and work constructively to get it fixed without causing friction.
Physical Requirements & Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb around large steel structures for extended periods on a live shop floor.
- Comfortable working in a loud, active industrial shop environment.
