Position Summary:

The Quality Control and Assurance Technician directly reports to the Grain Operations Vice President and does not have supervisory duties; is an essential part of the production team providing quality control, compliance, and quality assurance from raw feed materials to the finished product; and has regular contact with production, sales, and merchandising employees, management and human resource staff, state and federal regulatory representatives, customers, vendors, and location visitors.

Essential Functions & Attributes for Success:

Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections and audits of production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards. Implement and monitor quality control procedures, including sampling, testing, and analysis of raw materials, and quality assurance for finished products.
Inspections: Uphold daily and weekly inspections of all raw goods and feed products for quality and product specification compliance.
Training and Education: Train production staff on compliance and quality control procedures. Ensure that all employees are aware of and adhere to regulatory and quality standards.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including FSMA, and other industry standards. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments to processes and documentation.
Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in production processes and quality control measures. Work with the production team to implement changes that enhance product quality and compliance.
Project NGMO Verifications: Ensure all Project NGMO Verifications standards are met. Support audits and provide training to staff in compliance and quality assurance procedures.
Customer Interaction: Address customer inquiries and concerns related to product quality and compliance. Work with the sales and customer service teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all process testing for optimization, records for product quality for performance and sales, and records of compliance and quality control activities.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and submit reports to management and regulatory bodies as required. Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and develop processes and documentation to ensure teams understand and adhere to all inbound and outbound product standards and develop and maintain FSMA FSP (Food Safety Plan).
All other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification, is preferred.
2+ years of experience in agriculture regulatory compliance.
2+ years of experience in quality control and assurance in the feed manufacturing industry.

Work Environment & Hazards:

The work environment is primarily a factory setting with a high risk of airborne allergens and irritants, performing duties from extreme heights, and duties associated with confined spaces common to a grain facility environment.

The employee is regularly required to have prolonged demands to stand with frequent movement from station to station, crouching, kneeling, and walking. Daily required to perform duties associated with the use of hand and power tools, farm equipment, and/or cell phone; perform tasks associated with eye-hand coordination; distinguish details of objects less than a few feet away and determine and detect differences between size, color, numbers, shades, and brightness, as well as differentiate sounds. Must have the ability to frequently lift and maneuver up to 30 pounds.
