The Quality Assurance Lab Technician is responsible for conducting standardized qualitative and quantitative tests to determine physical or chemical properties of food products to ensure compliance with company, customer, or government quality standards. This position also manages the process of product non-conformities and accurate documentation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Verifies samples are received as required and conducts analytical testing of finished goods to ensure all product specifications are met. Tests include but are not limited to: pH, viscosity, color, flavor, aw, brix and drain weight.
Operates laboratory equipment and instruments in accordance with established procedures, including but not limited to: Viscometer, Refractometer, pH Meters, Hunter Colorimeter and Aqualab CX2.
Records test results in a consistent and accurate manner.
Assists in root cause analysis for quality issues on finished goods.
Isolates non-conforming product in accordance with established procedures.
Maintains product shelf-life samples.
Calibrates laboratory equipment at specified frequencies.
Reviews and updates SOP’s for in process lab procedures.
Responsible for all aspects of safety, continuous improvement/efficiency improvement and adhering to policies and procedures.
Adheres to all GMP, including sanitary requirements, Safety, Food Safety, and Standardized Work procedures.
Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Associates degree in food science or related field with one year of equivalent experience in food manufacturing. A bachelor’s degree in a biological or chemical science is preferred.
Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices and aseptic microbiological techniques is preferred.
HACCP certification and/or Better Processing Control School are beneficial.
