Job Overview
The Quality Control Laboratory Technician & Chemist supports the Quality Control & Laboratory Manager in all aspects of sample handling, testing, documentation, and laboratory maintenance. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of analytical results, supports production and sales with timely information, and maintains a safe and organized laboratory environment.
Duties
Sample Handling & Analysis
- Receive, properly label, and store all incoming samples (e.g., supplier or customer retains)
- Perform analysis on all samples, collect data, and interpret results
- Document and enter all sample data into Chempax to generate Certificates of Analysis (COAs)
- Review blending team production logs to organize and prioritize sample flow.
- Create small-scale laboratory samples for investigative testing or customer evaluation, as requested.
- Collect product samples for customers at the request of sales representatives
Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Assist with document control, including generating bulk COAs and converting supplier COAs to Viking Chemical letterhead
- Organize and maintain a database of all retained samples for long-term storage.
- Monitor and report on the quarantine area, identifying products eligible for sale or blending.
- Inspect staged products to verify label accuracy and shipping documentation prior to release
Laboratory Maintenance & Safety
- Maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration, cleaning, and inventory management
- Notify the QC/Laboratory Manager of reorder points for laboratory materials and consumables
- Ensure proper storage of laboratory chemicals and assist with chemical spill cleanup when necessary
- Coordinate with production and logistics teams to conduct spot testing during blending procedures
Qualifications
- Prior laboratory or quality control experience preferred; chemical industry experience a plus
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and data accuracy
- Ability to follow established procedures and maintain a clean, safe work environment
- Proficiency in data entry; experience with Chempax or similar ERP system preferred
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with production, logistics, and sales teams
- Prior experience with metal finishing/plating lab work preferred
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related science preferred
- 1–3 years of laboratory, quality control, or chemical manufacturing experience preferred (internships or academic lab work accepted)
- Familiarity with standard laboratory practices, chemical handling, and safety procedures
- Experience with data entry and ERP systems (Chempax or similar) preferred
