POSITION TITLE: Laboratory Technician
COMPANY: Grace Pacific, LLC
DEPARTMENT: Quality Control

REPORTS TO: Quality Control Supervisor

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

1. Responsible for developing and maintaining yearly mix designs statewide.

a. Develops and verifies a minimum of 2 mix designs per week.

b. Develops at least 5 different aggregate blends for each design that meets or exceeds specifications.

c. Consults with the QC Manager or Supervisor to determine the most economical mix design to submit for approval.

d. Assists the Plant Technician with the maintenance of each mix design control chart for all of the mixes on Oahu.

2. Performs or verifies aggregate qualifications on the different aggregate stockpiles before starting a new design and helps with aggregate testing in the quarry when needed.

3. Collects and tests plant and field samples per project specifications when needed.

4. Responsible for testing and submitting all AMRL proficiency samples.

5. Maintains all laboratory testing equipment and tools in accordance to AASHTO / ASTM requirements.

6. Makes recommendations on changes substantiated by field/ laboratory testing of all components of materials produced and/or purchased.

7. Operates and reports readings from profilometer machine as requested to test smoothness of asphalt projects.

8. Prepares and maintains records on all tests performed.

9. Performs the duties of a Plant or Field Technician when needed.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

11. Promotes awareness of and follows Company and general safety policies.

12. Exhibits a core understanding of mutual respect and good customer service orientation in interactions with all people in the workplace.

PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Engineering degree preferred, or post high-school engineering /math/ science coursework.

2. 5 years of applicable experience in asphalt concrete and aggregate testing.

3. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email. Adaptable to in-house software. Keyboarding skills sufficient to complete tasks in a timely manner.10 key by touch.

4. Math skills to perform accurate calculations for daily tasks.

5. Ability to read and understand job requirements and technical specifications.

6. Blueprint Reading Required; ability to reference plans for test locations (station numbers, etc.)

7. Valid Hawaii driver’s license and favorable traffic abstract.

8. Certifications: Mix Design Certification from the Asphalt Institute for Marshall and Superpave designs. NICET Level III / IV certification desirable or working towards. Nuclear gauge certification. Asphalt Institute’s Basic Mixture Technician (BMT) certification. All security clearances, as required. US Army Corps of Engineers CQC (Construction Quality Control) training or equivalent.

9. Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner.

10. Work Hours: Typical working hours vary based on operational need, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to travel to the neighbor islands.

11. Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective internal and external communications.
