They are hiring a Quality Control Lead to join their growing business and continuously improve their Quality Control function.
This role is responsible for ensuring the effective testing, release, and monitoring of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products while maintaining compliance with food safety, quality, customer, and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across laboratory operations, product release activities, supplier quality support, and continuous improvement initiatives, helping to shape the future of quality in the business.
The Role
Quality Control Leadership
- Lead and manage all Quality Control activities, ensuring timely testing and release of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Quality Control procedures, specifications, sampling plans, and laboratory practices.
- Oversee analytical, microbiological, and sensory testing programs to ensure compliance with product specifications and customer requirements.
- Review and approve laboratory test results to support material and product disposition decisions.
- Lead investigations into out-of-specification (OOS) results, non-conforming materials, and laboratory deviations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Establish, monitor, and report Quality Control KPIs, driving continuous improvement in laboratory performance and testing turnaround times.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is appropriately calibrated, maintained, and qualified.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Procurement, R&D, Production, and Supply Chain teams to develop and maintain product, raw material, and packaging specifications.
- Support supplier qualification and approval activities through specification review, testing data assessment, and supplier performance monitoring.
- Work closely with operational teams to resolve quality issues and support operational excellence initiatives
- Provide technical expertise during customer certification and regulatory audits.
- Manage relationships with external contract laboratories and ensure testing programs meet quality and turnaround requirements
- Lead, coach, and develop Quality Control personnel to build technical capability and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance and mentorship on laboratory best practices, quality standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Promote a proactive quality culture through training, performance management, and knowledge sharing.
- Support organisational capability building through the implementation of improved systems, processes, and methodologies.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in a Quality Control or Quality leadership role within food, nutraceutical, ingredients, or related manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing product release, raw material approval, and laboratory investigation processes.
- Strong knowledge of food microbiology, analytical testing techniques, and laboratory operations.
- Experience managing external laboratories, analytical methods, specifications, and testing programmes.
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause investigation methodologies. Experience in Change Control, Deviations, Supplier and Customer complaints.
- Experience supporting audits, supplier quality programmes, and food safety management systems.
Management and Commercial Capability
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across functions and levels of the organisation.
- Ability to interface effectively with customers, suppliers, external laboratories, and executive leadership.
- Strong organisational, prioritisation, and follow-up skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
