We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Quality Control Team Leader to lead our shift-based QC inspection team. In this role, you will oversee daily quality operations, manage a team of QC Inspectors, and ensure that all incoming raw materials, in-process components, and finished plastic products comply with strict technical and regulatory standards. You will act as a key liaison between production, engineering, and management to resolve non-conformances and drive root-cause analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Supervision: Manage, mentor, and schedule QC Inspectors across manufacturing shifts. Assign daily testing tasks, monitor workflow, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Process & Product Oversight: Oversee visual and dimensional inspections of molded, extruded, or formed plastic parts to confirm absolute conformance with blueprints, CAD models, and customer specifications.
- Non-Conformance & Corrective Action: Immediately flag product defects (e.g., flash, short shots, warping, sink marks) and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) along with Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Compliance & Standards: Maintain rigorous adherence to quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and any industry-specific regulations (e.g., FDA cGMP, IATF 16949).
- Documentation & Reporting: Ensure accurate record-keeping of inspection logs, test results, scrap/re-work metrics, first-article inspections (FAI), and supplier performance data.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with production supervisors and process technicians to adjust machine parameters, improve cycle stability, and minimize material waste.
- Training & Metrology: Train production and quality staff on inspection techniques, operation of metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, optical comparators), and plant safety protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on quality control or quality supervision experience within a manufacturing environment; a strong background in plastics, injection molding, or extrusion is preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Quality Systems: Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical, engineering, or scientific discipline is preferred. Quality certifications (such as ASQ CQE, CQT, or Six Sigma Green Belt) are a major plus.
- Soft Skills: Excellent leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills to manage cross-functional accountability and maintain a culture of quality.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel) and enterprise quality management software (QMS) or ERP tracking databases.
- Bilingual is a plus English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, and navigate the manufacturing floor for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a plant environment with exposure to varying ambient temperatures and machinery noise levels.
- Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and ear protection.
Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 48.0 per week
