Job Description:
The Quality Technician is responsible for performing detailed inspections and tests on plastic injection molded parts to ensure compliance with internal specifications and customer requirements. This position ensures consistent product quality by using various measuring tools and supporting quality systems within the injection molding production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect plastic injection molded components during and after production using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and vision systems.
Perform visual and dimensional inspections for defects.
Interpret and apply customer and engineering specifications, technical drawings, and quality standards.
Maintain accurate inspection records, first article reports, and non-conformance documentation.
Conduct and monitor in-process inspections to ensure continuous product conformity.
Collaborate with production and engineering teams to troubleshoot quality concerns related to the injection molding process.
Assist in the investigation of non-conformances and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
Support activities related to quality audits (internal, customer, or third-party) and ISO compliance.
Calibrate, maintain, and manage inspection and test equipment as per schedule.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis projects related to product quality and process capability.
Support the development and updating of control plans, FMEAs, and work instructions.
Support training production staff in quality procedures, inspections techniques, and company standards.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or technical training in quality, manufacturing, or plastics preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a quality technician role within a plastic injection molding environment preferred.
Working knowledge of injection molding processes, tooling, and typical defects.
Familiarity with ISO 9001or similar quality standards.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Proficient in reading blueprints and technical documents.
Comfortable working with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); quality management systems (QMS).
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with coordinate measuring machines and vision inspection systems.
Knowledge of IQ/OQ/PQ validation processes in plastics manufacturing.
Lean Six Sigma training or certification.
Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and reporting.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus preferred.
Working Conditions:
Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to noise, heat, and machinery.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and use of hands for inspection tasks.
May require weekend work or overtime as needed.
