The QC Technician is responsible for ensuring that prestressed and precast concrete products meet quality standards, specifications, and safety requirements. This role involves inspecting materials, monitoring production processes, performing tests, and maintaining accurate documentation throughout the prestressing and casting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect raw materials (cement, aggregates, strands, admixtures) for compliance with specifications
- Monitor prestressing operations, including tensioning, elongation measurements, and strand placement
- Verify setup and calibration of stressing equipment and gauges
- Perform and document concrete tests (slump, air content, temperature, compressive strength)
- Inspect forms, molds, and reinforcement prior to concrete placement
- Ensure proper curing procedures are followed
- Conduct final inspections of prestressed members for defects, dimensions, and tolerances
- Maintain detailed QC reports, test records, and inspection logs
- Identify non-conforming products and assist with corrective actions
- Coordinate with production, engineering, and plant personnel to resolve quality issues
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., PCI, ASTM, AASHTO) and company procedures
- Support internal and external audits
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field preferred)
- Experience in precast/prestressed concrete or construction quality control preferred
- Familiarity with industry standards (PCI, ASTM, ACI)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Basic math and measurement skills
Preferred Certifications
- PCI Level I or II Certification
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a plant or outdoor environment
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs)
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment and machinery
Work Environment
- Precast/prestressed concrete manufacturing plant or construction site
- Exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
