Job Purpose
The Quality Controller is responsible for ensuring that garments manufactured by outsourced CMT’s (Factories) meet the company’s required quality standards, customer specifications and production requirements. The role involves inspecting garments throughout the manufacturing process, identifying defects or inconsistencies, recording quality issues and working with the production team to ensure corrective action is taken. The Quality Controller must have a strong eye for detail and a good understanding of garment construction, fabric quality, measurements, stitching and finishing standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Inspection
· Inspect raw materials, fabrics, trims and finished garments to ensure they meet required quality standards.
· Conduct quality checks during various stages of the manufacturing process.
· Inspect garments for correct stitching, seams, hems, zips, buttons, embroidery, labels and finishing.
· Check garments against approved samples, specifications, measurements and customer requirements.
· Identify manufacturing defects, damage, stains, incorrect sizing, colour variations and poor
workmanship.
· Conduct final quality inspections before garments are packed and dispatched.
Measurements & Specifications
· Measure garments according to approved size specifications and measurement charts.
· Ensure garments are manufactured within the required measurement tolerances.
· Identify incorrect sizing or discrepancies and report these to the relevant production personnel.
· Ensure approved samples and specifications are correctly followed throughout production.
Defect Management
· Record and report quality defects identified during inspections.
· Separate or quarantine defective garments where necessary to prevent them from progressing to the next stage.
· Communicate quality issues to production staff and supervisors.
· Follow up on corrective actions to ensure identified defects are resolved.
· Monitor recurring defects and highlight trends to management.
Production Quality Control
· Perform random and scheduled inspections throughout the production process.
· Monitor workmanship and production quality across different manufacturing stages.
· Ensure reworked garments are inspected again before being approved.
· Assist production teams in understanding and maintaining required quality standards.
· Provide feedback to production staff where quality standards are not being met.
Documentation & Reporting
· Maintain accurate quality control records and inspection reports.
· Record defects, rejected quantities, rework and quality concerns.
· Prepare regular quality reports for the Production Manager / Operations Manager.
· Maintain records of approved samples, specifications and quality requirements.
· Ensure all quality-related documentation is completed accurately and on time.
Qualifications & Experience
· Grade 12 / Relevant tertiary education
· Valid driver’s license
· Preferably own vehicle will be advantageous
· Previous experience in quality control within the clothing, textile or garment manufacturing industry.
· Experience inspecting finished garments is advantageous.
· Knowledge of sewing, garment construction and production processes.
· Computer literacy, including basic Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
· Previous experience working with measurement specifications and quality checklists will be advantageous.
· Ability to work under pressure / deadlines.
