Position Summary
The Quality Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) while helping to expand and strengthen the organization’s overall Quality Assurance program. This position is responsible for ensuring quality processes are consistently followed, documented, and maintained, while also driving the development of new systems, procedures, and controls that improve quality performance across the business.
Working closely with Production, Engineering, Customer Service, Purchasing, and Supply Chain, the Quality Coordinator will investigate nonconformances, support corrective actions and 8D problem-solving efforts, perform inspections, analyze quality data, and maintain quality documentation. Equally important, this individual will serve as a key contributor in building a more proactive quality culture by establishing structured methods for identifying, tracking, trending, and preventing quality issues.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working on the manufacturing floor and within quality systems, bringing organization, accountability, and continuous improvement to an evolving quality function. This role is ideal for someone who can operate within an established QMS while also helping develop the processes, tools, and quality assurance practices needed to support the company’s future growth and operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming raw materials and components to verify specifications, and other applicable documentation.
- Perform routine and non-routine inspections and measurements of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products.
- Perform visual inspections of finished products for workmanship, dimensional accuracy, labeling, packaging, and other established requirements.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and ensure required quality checks are completed and documented.
- Identify and communicate product or process issues that may affect customer requirements, production, or delivery.
- Establish and maintain a consistent system for identifying, segregating, documenting, and dispositioning nonconforming material.
- Track internal and external customer nonconformance reports from initial identification through resolution and closure.
- Lead in 8D investigations of nonconforming products and materials to determine root causes and contributing factors.
- Monitor corrective actions to ensure they are completed effectively and within established timelines.
- Maintain organized records of nonconformances, corrective actions, customer complaints, and related documentation.
- Analyze recurring nonconformances and identify opportunities for preventive action and process improvement.
- Support the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the company’s Quality Management System.
- Maintain and organize quality records in accordance with company procedures.
- Support preparation for customer, registrar, and other external audits.
- Maintain an inventory of inspection and measurement equipment.
- Coordinate calibration and verification of measurement equipment in accordance with established requirements.
- Maintain calibration records and identify equipment requiring calibration, repair, replacement, or removal from service.
- Assist in developing standardized inspection criteria, checklists, forms, and work instructions.
- Support efforts to improve first-pass quality and reduce scrap, rework, customer complaints, and repeat nonconformances.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, quality assurance, inspection, or a related technical role.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, dimensions, and inspection requirements.
- Experience using inspection and measurement equipment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with the ability to identify quality issues, investigate root causes, and recommend solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking, analysis, and reporting.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work across production, engineering, and management teams.
- Self-motivated with the ability to develop and implement structured processes in an evolving environment.
Preferred
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Experience with nonconformance reporting, corrective actions, and root cause analysis methodologies (5 Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, etc.).
- Experience with supplier quality, incoming inspection, and customer complaint management.
Technical Skills
- Manufacturing drawing and specification interpretation.
- Dimensional inspection and measurement techniques.
- Quality documentation, recordkeeping, and nonconformance tracking.
- Root cause analysis, corrective action, and quality trend analysis.
- Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, formulas, sorting/filtering, and reporting).
Work Environment
- Split time between office and manufacturing environments with regular presence on the production floor.
- Ability to perform inspections and safely navigate a manufacturing setting while adhering to all safety and PPE requirements.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and occasionally lift or handle materials, products, or inspection samples.
