Role Description To ensure that every ton dispatched conforms to contractual specification, and that quality data is captured, tracked and reported accurately from stockpile through to vessel.
The role sits between the laboratory, the processing plants and the commercial team, and depends on clear and consistent communication across all three.
Key Responsibilities
• Sampling and analysis oversight Coordinate sampling at mines, sidings and ports, and liaise with the independent inspectorate on sampling execution and analysis turnaround.
• Certificate of Analysis management Receive, log and verify Certificates of Analysis, track draft versus final status per sublot, and follow up on outstanding results.
• Quality tracking Maintain vessel and cargo quality trackers by sublot, calculate running cargo
composites, and identify drift against specification at the earliest opportunity.
• Quality forecasting and geological modelling Work with geological models and block model data to
establish forward quality estimates per source and pit area, and translate these into expected product
qualities to support mine planning, blending and cargo nomination.
• Blending support Provide the quality inputs required to blend raw and washed components to target
specification.
• Processing liaison Work closely with the processing teams, including both crushing operations and the wash plant, to align product quality outcomes with plan, communicate specification requirements to plant personnel, and address quality deviations as they arise.
• Stockpile quality control and stock on hand Process daily stockpile survey data, maintain product
classification and quality position per site, and report stock on hand (SOH) across all sites.
• Stockpile agent oversight Track, direct and manage the appointed stockpile agents in respect of stock movements, product qualities and survey execution, ensuring that surveys are completed to schedule, that stockpile integrity is maintained, and that reported figures reconcile to dispatch and receipt records.
• Reconciliation and reporting Reconcile mine, siding and port results, investigate variances, and
support the commercial team with quality data for invoicing purposes.
• Stakeholder engagement Communicate effectively with parties at all levels, from executive
management, buyers and international inspectorates through to plant operators, survey teams and
weighbridge personnel, adjusting approach to suit the audience while maintaining a consistent and
professional standard of engagement.
Requirements
• A BSc or BCom in a relevant field – Geology, Chemistry, Mineral Processing, Extractive Metallurgy,
Supply Chain Management or Logistics
• Advanced Excel proficiency, including the handling of large data sets
• Meticulous attention to detail. The role turns on accuracy, and a misplaced decimal carries direct
commercial consequence
• Demonstrated ability to communicate credibly and build working relationships at all levels
• Willingness to travel between operations, sidings and port as required by the role
• Availability outside ordinary working hours as the operation demands
• A valid driver’s licence
• Willingness to relocate to Middelburg, Mpumalanga if from elsewhere
