Under direct supervision of the Quality Assurance Supervisor and guidance from the Director of Quality, the Quality Control Technician is responsible for safely, efficiently, and effectively performing the fundamentals of quality control lab testing. The Quality Control Technician is a key component of our overall business success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
1. Follow the guidelines of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), uniform and dress code, and product safety requirements.
2. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards, keeping work area clean and safe at all times.
3. Maintain a good attendance record and positive attitude.
4. Support company policies and be safety conscious at all times.
5. Report safety concerns and defective equipment to immediate supervisor or Team Leader.
6. Collect samples from various points in production: raw corn, masa, collettes, oil, and finished product bags.
7. Conduct routine laboratory testing as outlined in the Quality procedures:
a. Corn grading
b. Oil analytical testing using approved methods
c. Salt testing using the Mettler Toledo Titrator
d. Oil extraction of products using approved methods
e. Moisture testing using approved methods
f. Nub testing
g. Use of routine lab equipment, including balances, moisture balances, blenders, grinders, glassware, pipettes, and burettes
h. Perform verification activities involving preventive controls by monitoring and recording product temperatures exiting the extruders, ovens, and fryers
i. Perform critical control point verification by challenging metal detectors from the mezzanine level
j. Perform visual inspections using a flashlight on of all processing and packaging equipment after changing over to a new product
k. Perform verification activities on all scales that are on the production floor
8. Document and report test results appropriately and in a timely manner via computer logs, email, white board, and/or paper logs.
9. Use logic and analytical methods to determine if results are accurate.
10. Be able to recognize when results are out of specification and make appropriate notifications in accordance with procedures.
11. Participate in Quality and Production-related studies and projects.
12. Work extended schedules as the needs of the business dictate.
13. Work in other areas as workload demands.
14. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience
Requires general aptitude, mechanical and organizational skills, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, and one to three months related experience to become familiar with equipment and processes.
Language Skills
1. Ability to read and write English.
2. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
3. Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to team leaders, managers, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee:
Is frequently required to stand for periods of time; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls; climb stairs or ladders; reach above shoulders; and talk and listen.
Is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and use foot/feet to operate machinery.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Additional Benefits:
$1.00 per hour shift bonus for 2nd and 3rd shifts
