Position Summary
The Quality Engineer owns and continuously improves the facility's Quality Management System (QMS). Using core automotive industry standards (APQP, PPAP, PFMEA), this role acts as the subject matter expert to maximize first-pass yield (FPY), improve supplier quality, and drive down warranty claims.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional root cause analysis (e.g., 8D problem solving) and corrective/preventative actions.
- Develop and maintain Process Control Plans (PCP) and PFMEAs to drive risk reduction.
- Manage the Quality Assurance portion of APQP and PPAP for new product launches and engineering changes.
- Conduct failure analysis on customer returns to quickly resolve warranty claims and reduce costs.
- Assess supplier quality, manage quarantined inventory, evaluate ISIRs, and issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs).
- Ensure facility-wide compliance with IATF 16949 / TS-16949 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Integrate Lean Manufacturing principles and "Design for Safety" into all process and workstation improvements.
Key Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Quality Engineering.
- Experience: 2+ years of Quality Engineering experience in an automotive, aerospace, or heavy machinery manufacturing environment.
- Compliance Knowledge: Must have hands-on experience with IATF 16949 / TS-16949 quality management systems.
- Technical Skills: High proficiency in APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, GD&T, and statistical problem-solving (capability studies, probability).
- Communication: Exceptional ability to present information clearly to management, suppliers, and shop-floor technicians.
Work Environment
This role operates in a fast-paced manufacturing environment requiring frequent standing, walking the production floor, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Strong critical thinking is required to make rapid decisions on the floor.
