The Quality Assurance and Sanitation Manager must possess an educational background and technical aptitude as it relates to food plant sanitation programs, chemical handling and Food Safety programs. A general knowledge of Food and environmental microbiological testing as well as preventative measures including sanitary design and automated sanitation and efficiency is required. This position will ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines for FDA, QA, manufacturing, HACCP, SQF, customer requirements, and other quality, food safety, and sanitation programs. This position will require daily cleaning and testing of equipment and products and will oversee the employees responsible for Housekeeping and Sanitation within the plant.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee internal activities related to food safety, product quality, microbiological performance criteria, finished products, SQF and HACCP systems, government regulatory compliance, inspection criteria, and customer complaint investigation and response.
Perform technical operations such as taking samples, examining/analyzing products, recording results, and taking appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.
Perform monthly audits of manufacturing and warehouse locations at facility, along with allergen and HACCP.
Assist with development, implementation, and administration of new and existing QA & Sanitation policies.
Lead 3rd party audits (GFSI, SQF, etc.) as well as regulatory agencies, and customer audits
Conduct ongoing team member training on Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, and food safety related issues.
Lead QA Team Meetings.
Manage and maintain Allergen Control, Environmental Monitoring, and Sanitation Programs.
Support and assist in Corrective Action and Continuous Improvement Programs.
Provide technical support to operations and management to develop effective solutions when processing problems occur.
Additional Expectations:
SQF Practitioner – manage SQF system and understand SQF Code and requirements to maintain system.
Maintain all Food Safety & Quality Certifications
Maintain compliance with product specifications, labeling, and regulatory standards.
Certify the integrity of Finished Products
Ensure that all company standards and government regulations are met.
Preferred Education/Experience:
Associate or Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Chemical or Ag Engineering or related fields.
Relevant experience preferably in a food manufacturing environment or an FDA regulated industry.
HACCP and/or SQF certification preferred. If certifications are not attained prior to accepting the position, a successful candidate must acquire both certifications within the first year of employment.
Experience with Low Moisture Foods considered a plus
