Quality Engineer: Rockford, IL

Our client is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join their growing manufacturing organization. This is an opportunity to take ownership of critical quality initiatives while working closely with production, engineering, suppliers, and customers to improve product quality and strengthen manufacturing processes. The Quality Engineer will play an important role in defect prevention, root cause analysis, inspection controls, corrective actions, QMS compliance, and continuous improvement within an ISO 9001 environment supporting customer and aerospace quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead root cause investigations for product defects, internal scrap, customer returns, and quality escapes using 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone methodologies
  • Own corrective and preventive actions from initial investigation through implementation and effectiveness verification
  • Lead and participate in PFMEA, PPAP, APQP, Control Plan, and First Article Inspection activities to proactively improve product and process quality
  • Develop and maintain inspection plans, manufacturing quality documentation, routing procedures, and work instructions
  • Utilize SPC and process capability data to identify variation, improve processes, and support production performance
  • Partner with CMM programmers and manufacturing personnel to ensure inspection results are understood and effectively applied on the production floor
  • Support and strengthen the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, with exposure to AS9100 standards and aerospace quality requirements
  • Plan and perform internal audits while supporting third-party registrar audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections
  • Help maintain calibration systems and ensure monitoring and measuring equipment is properly controlled
  • Serve as a key quality contact for customers, helping investigate complaints, resolve quality concerns, and manage technical deviations or waivers
  • Evaluate supplier quality performance, review incoming nonconformances, and issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) when needed
  • Participate in nonconformance reviews and Material Review Board activities
  • Help train and mentor Quality Control and Manufacturing team members on QMS requirements, inspection practices, metrology, and product quality
  • Guide production personnel in interpreting CMM inspection reports, blueprints, and quality data to improve machine utilization, throughput, and overall product quality

Skills & Experience :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Quality , Engineering, Technology, or related industrial field, preferred. Associate degree in Quality Assurance, industrial discipline, or related field, OR significant manufacturing quality experience, required
  • Experience : 5+ years of quality control or quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, required . 2+ years of experience working with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100, required
  • Knowledge: PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, & First Article Inspections, requi r ed
  • Equipment Experience: CMM required ; CNC preferred
  • Software: Calypso, QMS, & Microsoft Office Suite, required

Pay: $70,000 – $90,000/year + bonus incentives

Type: Full-time, 1 st Shift, On-site

Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
