SUMMARY:
Assist in the development, implementation and the management of quality control systems designed to ensure continuous production of cosmetics, dietary supplements and food (consistent with established standards, customer specifications and production goals). Will assist in ensuring raw materials, components, in-process and finished products are released properly. Supervise a team of quality control laboratory technicians as well as evaluate and investigate cases of nonconformance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizes and directs the daily activities of the QC laboratories.
Responsible for overseeing quality control and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab results.
Keep track and organize changes to product specifications.
Will learn all the analytical techniques and testing required for all of Sunrider’s incoming ingredients, bulk, packaging, and finished goods. Will be able to fill in temporarily for any analyst in the event of loss of staff, while looking for new hires.
Will maintain a working relationship with third party labs to assist with work overflow.
Monitor and supervise the activities of laboratories where technicians perform physical, chemical and microbiological tests of incoming ingredients, bulk, packaging, and finished goods.
Initiate and investigate any non-conforming materials or products. Issue and manage corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
Follows through to make sure results are entered into the system in a timely manner and notifications sent out to planners.
Ensures that expired lots are retested, and coordinates with planners to determine priority items that will need to be expedited.
Determine the disposition of control and release of all raw materials, work in progress, finished products, and packaging materials on QC holds.
Manage, train and oversee the activities of QC Technicians.
Establish, execute, review and evaluate laboratory procedures and policies and procedures for operating functions of laboratory.
Perform responsibility of Laboratory Document Control
Head responsibility to maintain laboratory records, reports and files.
Manage laboratory purchase of inventor, storage and supplies usage.
Manage and resolve administrative and technical problems.
May be assigned additional duties beyond the core duties outlined above.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for overseeing quality control and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab results. Will approve employee time sheets and be responsible for approving and coordinating employee vacation times. May have to advise, mentor, counsel or participate in conflict resolution. Will review employees.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in manufacturing cosmetics, food and or dietary supplements. Preference given to experience in the manufacturing of OTC products. Two years of Continuous team-based management experience or equivalent in Quality control. Knowledge of GMP in manufacturing, processing, packaging, or holding of drugs. Knowledge of GMP for finished pharmaceutical manufacturing, including but not limited to management of batch records, specification, inspection, and release procedures. Self-motivated with ability to work independently, meet deadlines, multi-task with a positive attitude. Ability to problem solve and make timely decisions Computer skills. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Know how to operate analytical instruments such as GC, ICP-OES, FTIR, UV-Vis, Karl-Fischer titration.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in either Food Science, Operations, Technical Management, Science discipline (microbiology, chemistry and biology preferred).
Must have hands-on laboratory experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
Knowing Spanish is a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Must be proficient in algebra and acquainted with statistics.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Must be familiar with online file sharing services like google drive. Must be proficient in excel and the rest of the Microsoft office suite.
REASONING ABILITY:
Must be able to approach problems in a logical well thought out manner.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
May be required to lift or move up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Laboratory and office setting. The laboratory noise is consistent with laboratories, expect noise from hoods, coolers, refrigerators and other lab equipment.
