Position Summary:
The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Quality Manager and is responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing internal manufacturing quality processes and procedures. This role includes continuous improvement initiatives, assembly reviews, and customer support for quality initiatives. The Quality Engineer performs various tasks based on their training, experience, and skills.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Certified IPC
610, J-STD 001, and 7721/11 trainer capable of training exempt and non-exempt personnel.
Lead auditor for ISO 9001, 14001, 13485, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
Mentor inspectors, assemblers, and manufacturing personnel to develop their expertise.
Verify compliance of finished assemblies with drawing and industry standards.
Create and coordinate First Article Inspection (FAI) reports and determine line release.
Establish quality plans and set quality goals for PCB assembly and box build processes for new products.
Perform statistical analysis using trend charts, control charts, pareto charts, DOE, PFMEA, etc., and review quality reports.
Conduct reject verification and analysis, providing feedback for process or product improvements.
Serve as the technical contact for product quality between the company and customers.
Create product-specific quality inspection plans.
Utilize quality tools for planning and improvement.
Make decisions to halt production at any step if necessary.
Coordinate customer audits and approvals related to deviations.
Setup product audits as needed.
Interpret detailed, assembly-level drawings and customer specifications accurately.
Conduct product inspections using appropriate instrumentation (e.g., CMM, micrometers, calipers).
Manage root cause analysis with engineering, and coordinate customer 8D reports.
Utilize precision measuring devices and electronic equipment to ensure compliance.
Lead and drive the Continual Improvement Process (CIP) team.
Provide training on quality standards, procedures, and work instructions.
Manage internal rework processes.
Perform tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining quality standards.
Support and improve production processes as needed.
Interface with internal customers and organize meetings.
Adhere to health and safety policies at all times.
Support the Quality Management System, including ISO conformance.
Perform other related duties as assigned, in accordance with instructions, procedures, and experience.
Qualifications Required/Job Specifications:
At least four (4) years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a PCBA and Mechanical EMS environment.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Training in quality standards, document control, ISO, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing.
Experience implementing ISO standards (e.g., 9001, 14001, 13485).
Proven ability to develop and document procedures.
Strong knowledge of inspection methods and quality engineering tools.
Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask.
Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret various instructions.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
Effective communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Self-motivated, dependable, with good relationship and time management skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, including during regular business hours, to communicate with various stakeholders.
