Position Summary:
The FSQ Manager is responsible for ensuring that all almond hulling and processing operations comply with food safety regulations, customer specifications, and quality assurance standards. This role oversees the development, implementation, and management of food safety programs, including HACCP, GMPs, SOPs, and third-party audits (e.g., SQF). The ideal candidate has a strong background in food manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and quality control specific to tree nuts or similar commodities.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Safety Program- Maintain and enforce Monte Vista’s SQF Level 2 food safety program. This includes but is not limited to updating and enforcing all prerequisite programs.
Quality Program- Define, improve, and maintain all quality programs and procedures, to ensure all product meets Monte Vista’s quality standards.
Internal & External Auditing- Operate audit ready. Perform all internal audits as a function of the food safety program.Facilitate all food safety related audits including customer, regulatory, and 3rd party.
Customer Management- Respond to all customer quality and food safety questionnaires.
Sampling Program- Maintain quality and food safety sampling programs to ensure all standards are being met.
Results & Record Keeping- Accomplish the Food Safety & Quality Control Manager mission by maintaining organized and complete records for all training, inspections, prerequisite programs, and any other required tasks. Develop and implement SOPs and flow charts for all quality and food safety related activities.
Management Duties- Ensure effectiveness of staff through ongoing training, coaching, and counseling of the Quality Control team. Manage QC team schedules. Assess the work performance of employees and provide feedback. Set goals for workers to make sure they comply with the company’s plan and vision.
Miscellaneous Duties- The FSQA Manager must be willing to perform miscellaneous tasks and projects, as well as assist other supervisors when asked.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Agriculture, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
5+ years of experience in food safety/quality assurance, preferably in tree nut or agricultural food processing.
Certified in HACCP and trained in Preventive Controls for Human Food (PCQI).
Experience with GFSI schemes (SQF, etc.).
Strong working knowledge of FDA, FSMA, and USDA regulations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management systems.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
Physical Requirements:
Based at almond huller and processing facility, exposure to dust, allergens, and seasonal temperature fluctuations.
Occasional off-shift work required during peak harvest or audit preparation periods.

Pay: $90,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
