Weekend Opportunity – Work 3 days a Week! Friday – Sunday 5am – 5:30pm
PURPOSE:
The FSQA Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all pet food products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. The primary purpose of this role is to safeguard the health and well-being of pets by meticulously monitoring, evaluating, and verifying all stages of the manufacturing process, from raw material selection to final product packaging. This role ensures adherence to regulatory standards, internal quality guidelines, and customer specifications, thereby fostering trust and reliability in our products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality Control
Conduct routine inspections and audits of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure they meet established quality and safety standards.
Perform laboratory tests and analyses to detect potential contaminants or deviations from quality specifications.
Evaluate and test product to verify conformance to requirements per the Quality Plan.
Place product on physical hold when it does not meet the requirements of the Quality Plan and send communication to impacted personnel.
Assist production personnel in the determination of root cause and implementation of corrective actions when product is found not to meet requirements.
Obtain raw material samples from the production and bring them to the lab for testing.
Perform visual and swab pre-operational verification of sanitation activities and facilitate corrective and preventive action as necessary.
Communicate with personnel when hygiene practices are not being followed.
Perform glass and brittle plastic audits.
Perform and record scale weight verifications.
Perform oxygen analyzer verifications.
Be the point person on the production floor regarding quality and food safety questions.
Report issues with regards to the food safety/quality assurance system (FSQA) to Leadership and adhere to the requirements of the FSQA standards.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including FDA, USDA, and AAFCO guidelines.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and proactively implement changes to meet new requirements.
Process Monitoring
Monitor the entire production process, from ingredient reception to packaging, to identify any potential quality or safety issues.
Work closely with production teams to implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and other quality assurance activities.
Prepare detailed reports on product quality, safety, and compliance for management review.
Enter data into and navigate within various computer systems.
Training and Development
Train production and other staff as needed on proper quality assurance protocols and food safety practices.
Develop and update training materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Continuous Improvement
Participate in cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for product and process improvements.
Identify and recommend opportunities for improvements to enhance product quality, safety, and efficiency and facilitate the implementation of those efforts.
Other
Fill sanitation and personnel hygiene supplies throughout the production areas of the facility.
Work collaboratively with production personnel and the FSQA Supervisor to make decisions that are best for the organization.
Be a strong advocate for food safety and product quality.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in quality assurance or quality control within the food manufacturing industry, preferably in pet food production.
Must feel “at home” in a refrigerated, multi-cultural, meat-processing environment.
Must be able to be on your feet all day and repeatedly lift at least 40 pounds.
Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and other food safety and quality standards.
Must possess excellent and effective computer communications, attention to detail, organizational, analytical, inter-personal, problem-solving and public speaking skills.
