MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.
MHI is seeking a Quality Assurance Specialist who will be responsible for quality assurance inspections on board ships and in shops during ship repair operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs quality assurance audits or checks assuring the use of correct procedures, materials, processes, and technical instructions. conducts inspections of work areas and other general QA inspections (checkpoints).
Attends production meetings as necessary to keep up-to-date on job progress. Works with shop superintendents to resolve problems and possible negative workmanship trends.
As part of availability planning, develops Test and Inspection plan, performs technical review of work specs to ensure compliance with technical requirements, and conducts pre-availability sub-contract/QA meetings to review subcontract requirements.
Provides the Documenter’s initial and updated information to maintain T & I plan and ensure it remains up to date.
Observe sub-contractor inspections and reviews sub-contractor procedures for compliance prior to submission for MARMC.
Upon conclusion of each job (availability), review the final records to be put into storage.
Maintains equipment and assures calibration for tests to be performed.
Works with the Lead Quality Assurance Specialist as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Minimum of two years related technical and/or quality experience, preferably in Ship Repair.
Strong organizational skills.
Proficient in blueprint reading/interpretation, and QA systems.
Knowledge of shipboard structures and systems required.
Must be able to obtain NACE or NBPI certification.
Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact well with others.
