Overview

Quality Manager Jobs in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at ExcelSense Technologies Corp.

Title: Quality Manager

Company: ExcelSense Technologies Corp.

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

ABOUT EXCELSENSE TECHNOLOGIES

ExcelSense Technologies is a growing electromechanical technology and manufacturing company based in the Vancouver area. We have recently moved to a new, larger location to accommodate our continued growth. We design, assemble, test, and support advanced industrial products used in demanding environments across sectors such as mining, transportation, automotive, oil & gas, and clean energy.

We are entering a significant stage of growth. With two major new product introduction programs planned over the next 12–18 months, increasing engagement with large OEM customers, and a goal to achieve ISO 9001 certification, we are investing in the people, systems, and leadership needed to scale with discipline.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a high-impact role for a quality leader who wants to build, not simply maintain.

The Quality Manager will take ownership of ExcelSense’s quality function, leading an existing team of one Quality Engineer and two Quality Technicians while strengthening the systems, processes, and culture required to support rapid growth.

The successful candidate will help move the company from a partially documented, ISO-like quality system to a mature, scalable quality management system capable of achieving ISO 9001 certification. They will also play a key role in supporting two major NPI programs involving new technology, new suppliers, new manufacturing processes, increased volumes, and evolving customer expectations.

This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable being both strategic and hands-on: able to build the quality roadmap, coach the team, support production, improve supplier and customer quality processes, and personally step in where gaps exist until the right long-term structure is defined.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a quality team currently consisting of one Quality Engineer and two Quality Technicians.
  • Create clear ownership, expectations, priorities, and development plans for the quality team.
  • Identify capability gaps within the quality function and build business cases for future headcount as the company grows.
  • Act as the primary quality leader within the organization, working closely with operations, engineering, production, supply chain, service, and leadership.
  • Build a culture of accountability, prevention, continuous improvement, and practical problem-solving.
  • Remain hands-on where required, including supporting inspections, investigations, documentation, nonconformance disposition, supplier issues, customer concerns, and production quality challenges.

ISO 9001 and Quality Management System Development

  • Lead ExcelSense’s path toward ISO 9001 certification.
  • Assess the current partially documented quality management system and develop a practical roadmap to close gaps.
  • Define, improve, and implement core QMS processes, including document control, training records, internal audits, nonconformance management, corrective action, calibration, supplier quality, inspection, test records, customer complaints, and management review.
  • Ensure quality processes are clearly documented, consistently followed, and integrated into day-to-day operations.
  • Help select, implement, or improve document control and quality system tools as required.
  • Prepare the organization for internal and external audits, including training process owners, supporting audit readiness, and driving corrective actions.
  • Build a QMS that supports real operational performance rather than creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

NPI and Production Quality

  • Provide quality leadership for two major NPI programs over the next 12–18 months.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and production to ensure quality requirements are built into the product launch process from the beginning.
  • Support design reviews, process reviews, pilot builds, production readiness reviews, first article inspection, validation planning, test requirements, inspection planning, and release criteria.
  • Help ensure new products are launched with appropriate quality controls, documentation, traceability, supplier readiness, and production support.
  • Identify quality risks early and drive cross-functional actions to reduce late-stage surprises, rework, escapes, and customer issues.
  • Develop scalable NPI quality processes that can support future product launches as the company grows.

Supplier and Customer Quality

  • Develop and improve supplier quality processes, including incoming inspection, supplier scorecards, supplier corrective actions, and supplier performance reviews.
  • Support supplier issue resolution and travel to suppliers when required.
  • Prepare the company for increasing quality expectations from large OEM customers, including stronger documentation, traceability, inspection records, corrective action discipline, and customer-specific quality requirements.
  • Lead or support customer quality investigations, complaint resolution, and corrective action responses.
  • Partner with engineering on regulatory compliance where quality processes, documentation, validation, or traceability support is required, while recognizing that engineering owns regulatory compliance.

Quality Systems, Metrics, and Continuous Improvement

  • Improve the basic quality systems already in place, including inspection records, NCR processes, CAPA logs, calibration tracking, supplier scorecards, ERP/MRP quality workflows, and quality reporting.
  • Define how these systems connect to the broader quality management system.
  • Develop meaningful quality metrics and dashboards to support decision-making.
  • Use data to identify trends, prioritize improvements, and reduce recurring issues.
  • Lead structured root cause and corrective action activities using practical tools such as 5 Why, fishbone analysis, 8D, Pareto analysis, control plans, and risk-based thinking.
  • Help the organization move from reactive quality control toward proactive quality assurance.

FIRST 12-18 MONTHS PRIORITIES

  • In the first 12–18 months, success in this role will include:
  • Creating a clear ISO 9001 certification roadmap and leading the company through execution.
  • Strengthening the existing quality team and clarifying roles, responsibilities, and priorities.
  • Building a practical document control system and improving core QMS documentation.
  • Providing strong quality support for two major NPI launches.
  • Improving nonconformance, corrective action, calibration, supplier quality, and inspection processes.
  • Establishing quality metrics that give leadership visibility into risks, trends, and improvement priorities.
  • Preparing ExcelSense for growing OEM customer expectations.
  • Identifying future quality team needs and building the case for additional headcount where justified.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in a quality leadership role within a manufacturing environment, ideally involving electromechanical products, electronics, industrial equipment, sensors, automation, robotics, or similarly complex hardware.
  • Experience leading, supervising, or mentoring quality engineers, technicians, inspectors, or related technical staff.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality management systems.
  • Experience either leading ISO 9001 certification or playing a major role in maintaining, improving, auditing, or preparing an ISO 9001 quality system.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction, production launch, engineering-to-manufacturing transfer, or manufacturing scale-up.
  • Strong understanding of nonconformance management, root cause analysis, corrective action, document control, calibration, inspection, supplier quality, customer quality, and production quality controls.
  • Ability to work effectively across operations, engineering, production, supply chain, service, and senior leadership.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, high-growth environment where systems are still being built and improved.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience taking a company from an informal or partially documented quality system to ISO 9001 certification.
  • Experience in low-to-medium volume, high-mix manufacturing.
  • Experience with large OEM customer expectations or customer-specific quality requirements.
  • Experience with first article inspection, PPAP, APQP, PFMEA, control plans, validation plans, or similar launch quality tools.
  • Experience improving or implementing document control systems.
  • Experience developing supplier quality processes and supplier corrective action systems.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP quality workflows, inspection records, CAPA systems, calibration systems, supplier scorecards, or digital QMS tools.
  • Experience in a company that has scaled quickly through major product launches.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The right person will be a builder and a leader.

They will be structured enough to create an ISO-ready quality system, but practical enough to make it work in a growing manufacturing environment. They will be comfortable on the production floor, confident working with engineers, credible with suppliers and customers, and able to coach a small team while still doing hands-on work when required.

This person should be energized by the opportunity to create clarity where systems are incomplete, develop people, improve processes, and help the company scale.

WHY JOIN EXCELSENSE?

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing technology manufacturing company at a pivotal stage.

As Quality Manager, you will not be inheriting a fully mature system and simply maintaining it. You will have the opportunity to shape how quality works, lead the team, build the QMS, support major product launches, prepare the company for ISO 9001 certification, and help establish the foundation for significant future growth.

For the right candidate, this role offers immediate ownership and strong potential to grow in scope as the company scales.
