JOB SUMMARY:
The Quality Receiving Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all incoming materials, components,
assemblies, and outsourced products conform to company specifications, engineering requirements,
purchase order requirements, and quality standards before release to inventory or production. This
position performs receiving inspections, verifies supplier documentation, conducts dimensional and
visual inspections, manages nonconforming material, and supports supplier quality improvement
efforts.
The Quality Receiving Inspector serves as a critical gatekeeper to prevent defective or
nonconforming materials from entering production, ensuring product quality, customer satisfaction,
and compliance with company policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receiving Inspection Activities
- Perform inspections of incoming materials, components, assemblies, and finished goods
according to established inspection plans and procedures.
- Verify received materials that match purchase order requirements, specifications, drawings,
and engineering standards.
- Conduct visual, dimensional, and functional inspections using appropriate measurement tools
and equipment.
- Verify quantities received and inspect packaging for damage or deficiencies.
- Review Certificates of Conformance (CoC), Mill Test Reports (MTR), First Article Inspection
Reports (FAIR), and other supplier documentation for completeness and compliance.
- Determine acceptance, conditional acceptance, or rejection of incoming materials.
- Apply receiving inspection status identification and ensure proper material segregation.
Quality Documentation
• Record inspection results accurately within ERP, quality management, or inventory systems.
- Maintain inspection records, supplier quality documentation, and receiving inspection logs.
- Generate nonconformance reports (NCRs) and maintain supporting evidence.
- Document supplier defects and quality trends for review by management.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of receiving inspection procedures and checklists.

Nonconforming Material Control
• Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming materials.
- Coordinate with Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Quality departments regarding
material disposition.
- Initiate supplier corrective action requests when necessary.
- Monitor containment activities for defective materials.
- Assist with root cause investigations related to supplier quality issues.
Inventory and Warehouse Support
• Ensure material is properly released to inventory only after inspection approval.
- Coordinate with Receiving and Warehouse personnel to maintain material traceability.
- Verify lot numbers, serial numbers, revision levels, and other traceability requirements.
- Support inventory audits and material reconciliation activities as needed.
Supplier Quality Support
• Assist in monitoring supplier performance metrics.
- Provide detailed quality feedback regarding supplier defects and trends.
- Support supplier audits and supplier development initiatives when requested.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities focused on incoming quality performance.
General Responsibilities
• Follow all company safety policies and quality procedures.
- Maintain calibration awareness and proper use of inspection equipment.
- Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Ability to prioritize tasks and move efficiently from one to another.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Competent in basic use of Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
- Basic knowledge of building standards and codes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and manufacturing
standards.
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment including:
o Calipers
o Micrometers
o Height gauges

- Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16 fluently.
- Knows how to read blueprints.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Willing to learn new programs as needed, such as Fishbowl or Smartsheet.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (including but not limited to):
• Able to work an 8-hour shift standing/walking.
- Able to climb ladders repetitively.
- Able to bend, crouch, twist, pull.
- Able to lift/carry 25 lbs.
- Able to work at a desk for short periods of time.
