PURPOSE OF ROLE
Performs numerous essential functions to ensure the safety and quality of all incoming materials and finished products used and produced by the plant. The Cold Storage QA Specialist answers to the Supplier QA Manager and must adhere to all company policies, standard operating procedures and customer regulations and specifications.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Food Safety & Quality Assurance Monitoring
Enforce the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Policy.
Monitor sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) and document them per company programs.
Perform AQL Inspections of incoming raw materials
Monitor food security and safety.
2. Documentation & Compliance Verification
Perform verification of daily documentation of receiving and shipping records and cold storage monitoring.
Organize and review all controlled documents in the facility.
File and organize all training and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) documents.
Create appropriate templates for forms and policies used in the facility.
Assist in the release of Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
3. Audits & Regulatory Compliance
Stay current on audit expectations (BRC, TFD, and other customer expectations).
Assist Manager with BRC and customer audits and completing all audit corrective actions.
Stay current on regulatory requirements for USDA and FDA (HACCP, FSMA, FSA, FDA audits).
Perform internal inspections of GMPs, Facility, and Food Security.
Perform annual internal policy reviews and provide updates to the QA Manager.
4. Training & Personnel Development
Train QA and plant personnel on food safety and quality policies and procedures.
Assist the QA Manager in follow-up of training requirements for the facility.
5. Cross-Departmental Support
Assist the Safety Manager in coordinating quality expectations for contractors.
Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned as needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
College level education preferred but not required
5 years of job-related experience
HACCP/FSMA Knowledge
BRC Knowledge preferred
Must pay attention to details and be very organized
Utilize critical thinking skills and gather relevant information to make informed decisions
Good communication skills: written and oral
Must be able to interact with other department managers/supervisors/leads
Exercise mature judgment and character
Frequently stands, lifts 50 lbs., walks, reaches, stoops, bends, handles product, smells, listens, speaks and sees
Basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Must be a team player and be able to work cross-functionally
Must be able to work unsupervised
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The temperature ranges from -10 degrees in freezers to 110 degrees in the cook rooms. There is exposure to equipment and machinery that are considered to be hazardous. Potential electrical, chemical, and heat hazards are also present. The level of noise is high and constant. Floors are damp and slick. There is forklift traffic present.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Hard hats, ear plugs or muffs, frocks, non-porous steel toe boots, hair nets, and beard nets must be worn at all times within the plant. Cotton and Latex gloves must be worn when handling products or contacting sanitary surfaces at all times for personal safety and product quality.
EMERGENCY TASK AND JOB ASSIGNMENT:
In the event that the Cold Storage & Compliance Specialist is not available the Quality Control Specialist, QA Manager/Supervisor will be responsible for assigned tasks.
