Job Summary:

The Quality Systems Engineer is responsible for leading, maintaining, and continuously improving the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with IATF 16949, customer-specific requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. This position serves as the site subject matter expert for quality systems, document control, internal auditing, and certification readiness activities. The Quality Systems Engineer drives quality system effectiveness through process audits, root cause analysis, corrective action management, and continuous improvement initiatives while partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure customer requirements are consistently met. This role may also serve as a key quality representative to customers by supporting audits, addressing quality concerns, coordinating corrective actions, and fostering strong customer relationships.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, administer, and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, customer-specific requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as the site lead for all IATF 16949 activities, including certification audits, surveillance audits, internal audits, gap assessments, corrective actions, and ongoing compliance initiatives.
  • Manage all document control activities, ensuring procedures, work instructions, forms, records, and quality manuals are current, approved, and properly distributed.
  • Coordinate Management Reviews and monitor quality objectives, KPIs, risks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and manage internal audits according to automotive industry standards.
  • Prepare for and support customer audits, third-party audits, and certification audits.
  • Act as the primary quality contact during audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings.
  • Provide customer support regarding quality concerns, corrective actions, and ongoing quality performance.
  • Support equipment operation and manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with quality specifications and customer requirements.
  • Manage product specifications, engineering changes, and quality-related technical documentation.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures, inspection methods, and process controls.
  • Conduct product, process, and system audits to identify improvement opportunities and ensure compliance.
  • Lead root cause investigations using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, PFMEA, SPC, MSA, and other quality methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze quality data, customer complaints, scrap, rework, warranty, and PPM trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing defects, improving efficiency, and increasing customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to establish quality requirements and expectations.
  • Conduct supplier audits and supplier performance evaluations.
  • Resolve supplier quality issues and drive effective corrective actions.
  • Support incoming quality control and supplier development activities.
  • Provide guidance and technical leadership to quality personnel and cross-functional teams.
  • Promote quality awareness and a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Mentor team members on IATF requirements, quality tools, and best practices.
  • Lead customer quality management activities, including responding to customer concerns, coordinating containment and corrective actions, monitoring customer scorecards, and ensuring compliance with customer-specific requirements and quality expectations.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, Core Quality Tools (APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, MSA, SPC, Control Plans), and automotive quality requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, auditors, all levels of the organization and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and quality reporting tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of quality experience in automotive manufacturing environment required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting and maintaining a Quality Management System (QMS) compliant with IATF 16949 and or ISO 9001.
  • Experience leading internal audits, customer audits, and third-party certification audits is required.
  • Experience managing document control systems, quality procedures, work instructions, and quality records is required.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action management is required.
  • Experience with Automotive Core Tools, including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, and Control Plans is required.
  • Proven experience leading root cause investigations and corrective action activities utilizing methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why Analysis, and Fishbone Analysis is required.
  • Experience working with customers and suppliers to resolve quality-related issues and drive performance improvements is required.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to: sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time and work on a computer; regularly walk, stand, sit and communicate. Comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing environment where each day has the potential to require different physical requirements. Must be able to communicate, sit, stand, walk and climb stairs for long periods of time and frequently throughout each day. There are times when you will need to walk throughout the manufacturing plant floor or walk between buildings, this includes but is not limited to walking outside, walking up and down stairs, walking across metal grates and potentially being in contact with slippery surfaces.
