The Transit Division of Irwin is focused on providing world class customer service to the Vehicle Builders and Mass Transit organizations in North America.
We are looking for a Quality & Production Director with experience in the transportation sector to lead quality assurance, drive production efficiency, and ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and IPC-A-610/620 standards. This role requires a strong leader who can develop and maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) while optimizing production workflows to meet industry and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Leadership
Lead the ISO 9001:2015 certification process, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
Develop, implement, and maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) tailored to the transportation industry.
Ensure compliance with IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for electronic assemblies and wire harnesses.
Conduct gap analyses to identify deficiencies and develop action plans for certification readiness.
Oversee internal audits and manage corrective/preventive actions to resolve non-conformities.
Train and certify employees in ISO 9001:2015, IPC-A-610, and IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements.
Manage customer and regulatory audits, ensuring compliance with industry-specific standards
Monitor and report on key quality metrics, implementing data-driven improvements.
Production & Operations Leadership
Oversee manufacturing and production operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and adherence to industry regulations.
Develop and execute production schedules, ensuring on-time delivery and alignment with customer expectations.
Lead and mentor a cross-functional production team, promoting a culture of excellence and accountability.
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and quality teams to optimize manufacturing processes.
Ensure compliance with transportation industry regulations and best practices in quality and safety.
Utilize ERP/MRP systems for efficient production planning and resource management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Proven experience in leading ISO 9001:2015 certification and compliance efforts.
Strong knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for electronic and wire harness assembly.
Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field
Minimum 7-15 years of experience in quality management and production leadership, preferably in manufacturing.
IPC-A-610/620 certification or experience managing IPC-compliant quality programs.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling tools.
Preferred Industry Experience
Rail, Automotive, Aerospace, Marine, or Manufacturing.
Experience working with OEMs and Tier 1/Tier 2 suppliers
Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry-specific safety & quality certifications.
