Role Description
This is a full-time Railway Inspector role that will perform daily field inspections of railway track, structures, and related infrastructure to verify compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
- Responsibilities include conducting visual and measurement-based inspections, documenting conditions, preparing detailed inspection reports, and promptly communicating findings and nonconformances to project managers and engineering staff.
- The role involves coordinating with contractors and railway personnel to schedule inspections, monitor construction activities, and verify corrective actions.
- The Railway Inspector will also assist in reviewing plans and specifications, maintaining accurate inspection records, and supporting continuous improvement of inspection procedures and safety practices on site.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive construction inspections to verify adherence to engineering plans, blueprints, schematics, and safety regulations.
- Perform quality control assessments throughout construction phases, ensuring materials and workmanship meet specified standards.
- Collect and analyze data related to construction progress, safety compliance, and quality metrics to inform project decisions.
- Review construction contracts and specifications to ensure scope compliance and identify potential issues early in the process.
- Monitor construction site activities, including railway platform construction for safety and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with contractors and client to resolve issues promptly and maintain project timelines.
- Document inspection findings through detailed reports, photographs, and records for accountability and future reference.
Skills
- At least 3+years working within the Railway industry required
- Safety-focused mindset with knowledge of railway safety protocols, construction site safety practices, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations
- Strong documentation and reporting abilities, clear written communication, attention to detail, and proficiency in basic office software.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with engineers, contractors, and client representatives in a professional manner.
- Ability to work in outdoor and field conditions, including walking long distances along track, climbing, and standing for extended periods, in varying weather.
- Prior experience in railway inspection, track construction, or signal inspection is strongly preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., FRA-related training, track inspection certifications, or construction inspection credentials) are a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to project sites as needed.
