Role Overview

The Quality Assurance Technician will perform inspections on hard and soft sided shelters, trailers, incoming parts, and various other products used in the manufacturing process and received from suppliers. They are responsible for ensuring the quality of manufactured goods from production to final product by continually assessing processes and recommending improvements based on their findings. Ensuring conformity of final product based on customer requirements and specifications. This person will complete tasks such as running tests, keeping a record of defects, maintaining results, analyzing products, overseeing procedures, and performing audits. The production environment is fast paced and requires a high attention to detail. This position is assigned to Western Shelter, a member of the Western Protective Solutions family located in Eugene, Oregon and will report to the Senior Quality Manager.

Responsibilities

Support all WPS and ISO quality requirements.
Perform and document a wide variety of complex dimensional and functional inspections and test procedures using hand tools to determine conformity of templates, received materials and parts, in-process components, and final assemblies with minimal supervision.
Inspect, measure and/or test materials to specified requirements using Engineering drawings and/or work instructions.
Maintain all calibrated equipment located at Western Shelter.
Create, maintain, and control Western Shelter work instructions.
Responsible for performing final inspection of all orders prior to shipment.

Generates nonconforming material reports and participates in MRB (Material Review Board), when necessary.
Perform FIAs (First Article Inspections) for required items.
Assists with ISO audits.
Work with hand tools such as micrometers, calipers, tape measure, and related measurement devices.
Complete and ensure applicable quality documentation is supplied with orders, when necessary.
Communicate with cross-functional departments to convey issues with products, specifications, and disposition of product.
Record all inspection activities.
Follow established company and department SOP’s and maintain quality standards.
Make suggestions regarding procedures, standards, and equipment to facilitate work and maintain product quality.
Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attend periodic safety meetings as required; recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
Interact with coworkers in a positive and encouraging manner.
Supports 6S/workplace organization goals of the department, offers suggestions, and makes improvements that assist in achieving the department’s performance metrics.
Regularly inspect, clean equipment, notify supervisor and/or facilities maintenance immediately of machines or equipment needing repair or maintenance, remove any damaged or worn tools out of service.
Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds of material without assistance.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and perform repetitive tasks such as pulling, lifting, and carrying materials.
Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
Engaging in repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and fingers – typing and/or writing.
Working frequently at close visual range (i.e. preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading).

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Working knowledge of ISO Quality Management System preferred
Ability to read and interpret blueprints/engineering drawings preferred
Ability to calculate cut size and read calipers, micrometers, height gauges, scales, and other measuring tools required
Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Experience with initializing and maintaining part/BOM configuration in MRP/ERP systems strongly preferred
