Senior QC Manager Jobs in Mobile, AL at B.L. Harbert International, LLC

This position will support an upcoming correctional facility project. Previous quality control experience on correctional facilities, detention centers, jails, prisons, or other secure institutional facilities is strongly preferred.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage the project-specific Quality Control Plan.
  • Provide overall leadership of the project’s quality control program and ensure all project team members and subcontractors understand and comply with applicable quality requirements.
  • Create, update, and maintain project submittal logs and all required quality control documentation.
  • Review shop drawings, product data, submittals, and other construction documents for conformance with project plans and specifications.
  • Lead and document QC meetings with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate daily QC reports documenting work activities, inspections, testing, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct and document preparatory, initial, and follow-up meetings for each definable feature of work.
  • Ensure required inspections and checklists are completed prior to placement or concealment of work.
  • Verify that materials delivered to the project conform to approved submittals and are properly received, stored, protected, and installed.
  • Schedule, coordinate, document, and maintain records of required code, third-party, Owner, and independent inspections and testing.
  • Identify, document, track, and ensure timely correction of deficiencies and non-conforming work.
  • Conduct follow-up inspections to verify work is being completed in accordance with contract documents, approved submittals, and established quality standards.
  • Coordinate closely with the Senior Superintendent and project management team to proactively identify quality issues before they impact schedule or project delivery.
  • Review and monitor the quality of detention equipment, security electronics, access control, surveillance, communications, and other correctional facility systems as applicable.
  • Coordinate quality requirements associated with the integration of detention/security systems with architectural, structural, and MEPF scopes.
  • Ensure quality documentation and inspections comply with project-specific security requirements and controlled-access procedures.
  • Coordinate testing and commissioning activities for security, detention, life-safety, MEPF, and other critical building systems.
  • Maintain documentation necessary for final inspections, certificates of occupancy, commissioning, substantial completion, and final acceptance.
  • Participate in punch list, closeout, and turnover activities to ensure all quality requirements have been satisfied.
  • Coordinate with correctional authorities, Owner representatives, inspectors, commissioning agents, and other agencies as required.
  • Exercise authority to stop work when necessary to resolve conditions affecting safety, quality, or the proper progression of the work.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of construction quality control processes, inspections, testing, documentation, and contract compliance.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, and technical requirements.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, building systems, and trade sequencing.
  • Experience managing preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections for definable features of work.
  • Strong knowledge of concrete, structural steel, building envelope, interior finishes, and complex MEPF systems.
  • Ability to identify deficiencies and non-conforming work and drive corrective action through completion.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, designers, inspectors, and Owner representatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple quality-related activities and priorities on a large, complex project.
  • Must be willing to relocate or travel as required by the project.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 10+ years of construction quality control and/or construction management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a Quality Control Manager on large, complex commercial, institutional, government, or secure-facility projects.
  • Prior correctional facility construction experience strongly preferred, including prisons, jails, detention centers, or similar secure institutional facilities.
  • Experience with detention equipment, security electronics, access control, surveillance, and other correctional facility systems is highly preferred.
  • Experience managing quality control for complex MEPF and life-safety systems.
  • Experience coordinating testing, commissioning, inspections, punch list, and final project acceptance.
  • Experience working with government or public-sector Owners is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Applicable quality control, safety, or industry certifications are preferred.
