About the Company
An established structural steel specialist is looking to appoint an experienced Quality professional to join its project delivery team in Dublin.
The business delivers structural steelwork across a range of complex projects, working closely with clients, contractors, engineers and specialist subcontractors to maintain high standards of quality, compliance and workmanship.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in structural steel quality assurance and quality control to take a key role in ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with specifications, standards and client requirements.
The Role
As a Quality Engineer / Quality Inspector, you will be responsible for supporting both Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities across structural steel projects.
You will work closely with site engineers, contractors, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure materials, workmanship, processes and documentation meet the required standards.
The role will involve a combination of site inspections, document review, reporting, compliance monitoring and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance
- Ensure project processes are followed to prevent defects and quality issues.
- Review method statements, Inspection & Test Certificates (ITCs), and W1 and W2 documentation.
- Monitor quality processes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify, escalate and report quality issues, defects and snags.
- Support project teams in maintaining required quality standards.
Quality Control
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality audits.
- Verify that materials, fabrication and workmanship comply with project specifications.
- Inspect completed and ongoing works against drawings, specifications and relevant standards.
- Identify, record and escalate quality issues and snags.
- Work with site teams to ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate quality records and inspection documentation.
- Prepare and manage Inspection Reports and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Track NCRs and monitor corrective and preventative actions through to completion.
- Prepare regular quality reports for management and clients.
- Ensure project quality documentation is complete, accurate and maintained throughout the project.
Compliance
- Ensure project activities comply with relevant specifications and quality requirements.
- Support compliance with ISO 9001 quality management standards.
- Ensure works comply with applicable regulatory requirements, codes and industry standards.
- Monitor project quality performance and highlight areas requiring attention.
Stakeholder Interaction
- Work closely with site engineers and project delivery teams.
- Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors on quality-related matters.
- Liaise with client representatives, inspectors and other project stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and support to site teams regarding quality requirements.
- Attend quality meetings and inspections where required.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring quality issues and trends.
- Support the implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Investigate root causes of recurring quality problems.
- Recommend improvements to workflows, processes and quality systems.
- Promote a proactive quality culture across project teams.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a quality role within construction, structural steel or a related engineering environment.
- Understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes.
- Experience conducting site inspections and quality audits.
- Experience managing NCRs and corrective actions.
- Strong understanding of project specifications and quality documentation.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality management systems.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to identify, investigate and escalate quality issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with site teams, contractors, subcontractors and clients.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within structural steel fabrication or erection.
- Experience working on large-scale construction projects.
- Knowledge of structural steel standards and specifications.
- Experience with W1 and W2 documentation.
- Relevant third-level qualification in Quality, Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
- Experience working within ISO-certified organisations.
- CSCS or equivalent site certification.
