Our client supports one of the largest and most critical federal IT programs in the country, delivering modern software solutions for the Social Security Administration. The Quality Engineering team operates at the intersection of agile delivery and enterprise-scale testing, and they are looking for a Senior Automation Tester who can both build and lead within a sophisticated, fast-moving test automation environment.

What You Will Do

  • Architect and implement automation frameworks using Java, Selenium, Cucumber, and Gherkin with BDD and TDD methodologies
  • Develop and maintain test scripts covering Features, Scenarios, and Step-Definitions within a customized framework
  • Build and execute automation suites via Maven, JUnit, or TestNG, including Selenium Grid configuration for parallel and cross-platform testing
  • Automate REST API testing using REST Assured or equivalent Java-based libraries, covering REST, SOAP, XML, and JSON services
  • Leverage Parasoft for functional testing, API testing, and environment virtualization
  • Document defects, test results, and automation artifacts in alignment with team standards
  • Participate fully in Scrum or Kanban ceremonies including backlog grooming, retrospectives, and sprint demos

Required

  • Master's degree with 5+ years of experience, Bachelor's degree with 7+ years, or 13+ years of equivalent experience in lieu of a degree
  • 7+ years developing automation tests using core Java or Java-based frameworks
  • 5+ years with Cucumber and Gherkin in a BDD context
  • 5+ years automating functional and regression tests with Selenium
  • Deep knowledge of BDD and TDD testing approaches
  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, DB2, Oracle) and SQL for test result validation
  • Familiarity with Web Services technologies and testing methodologies
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust clearance
  • Must be willing to work fully on-site in Maryland (5 days per week)

Preferred

  • Experience with Playwright, Cypress, or UiPath automation tools
  • Jenkins CI/CD pipeline experience for automated regression suite execution
  • Proficiency with Git, Stash, and pull request workflows
  • Familiarity with the SSA development environment: VersionOne (Agility), Confluence, SonarQube, Checkmarx
  • Cloud or containerization experience with AWS or Docker
  • Exposure to AI-assisted test automation or self-healing framework design
  • Experience with synthetic data generation and container-based test execution
