One of the country's largest financial institutions is searching for multiple Senior QA Consultants to join their Payments Technology Quality Engineering team in a hybrid capacity out of Charlotte, NC. This is a high-visibility, high-urgency engagement supporting a critical SWIFT Standards modernization program with a firm delivery target, meaning your contributions will have immediate, measurable impact on one of the most complex payments infrastructures in the country.
You'll be embedded in a globally distributed QA organization working across wire payment systems, SWIFT messaging gateways, mainframe platforms, and JSON–based applications, with a strong organizational push toward automation, AI-driven testing, and accelerated delivery timelines. This exciting opportunity to support a time-sensitive payments transformation program begins as a 6-month W2 contract with strong potential for extension. The role is offers competitive benefits and is hybrid, requiring 3 days onsite in Charlotte, NC.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Support end-to-end testing and quality delivery across high-throughput wire payment platforms, including MTS, SWIFT messaging gateways, and mainframe payment systems
- Execute and maintain automation suites within an existing BDD framework.
- Write, edit, and debug BDD feature files and step definitions; triage and resolve automation failures efficiently
- Validate complex end-to-end payment journeys including initiation, routing, posting, notifications, and reconciliation
- Perform message schema validation across ISO 20022 formats (e.g., pain.001, pacs.008, camt) and SWIFT MT/MX message types
- Integrate and maintain test suites within CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitLab CI), including quality gating, dashboards, and pass rate thresholds
- Support shift-left testing strategies at the PR/unit level and shift-right through synthetic monitoring and post-deploy observability validation
- Verify payment processing logic including idempotency, FX/fees, cut-off times, holiday schedules, retries, and sanctions/compliance workflow checks
- Apply test data management strategies, environment configuration, and parallel execution techniques to maintain suite stability and reduce flaky tests
Skills & Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred
- 7–10+ years in test automation with 5+ years of hands-on experience in banking or payments platforms (candidates from large financial institutions strongly preferred)
- Non-negotiable: Strong payments and banking domain expertise, including wire transfers, SWIFT transactions, and wholesale/commercial payment flows
- Solid working knowledge of ISO 20022 standards, including awareness of 2026 changes and MX message mapping
- Hands-on experience with Java and Selenium; additional exposure to C#, Python, TypeScript, Playwright, Cypress, or RestAssured is a plus
- Practical experience executing within an existing BDD automation framework including writing/editing step definitions, running suites, and debugging failures
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and version control via Git
- Working knowledge of SQL and at least one NoSQL database (e.g., MongoDB); experience with synthetic test data setup and masking strategies
- Experience validating JSON, XML, and ISO 20022 message schemas across file-based and real-time processing environments
- Exposure to event-driven or asynchronous systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) is a plus
- Experience with Jira and Octane for test management and project tracking
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct MTS application experience, or comparable wire/payment platform background
- Exposure to sanctions screening (OFAC), AML, fraud decisioning, reconciliations, or liquidity management
