A growing defense manufacturing organization is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Quality Engineer to join our team. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that our products and processes meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves developing and implementing quality control systems, conducting inspections and audits, analyzing data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of quality management systems (QMS), statistical process control (SPC), root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA). Experience with ISO standards, Six Sigma, or Lean methodologies is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Ensure products and processes comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100)
- Develop and maintain Quality Management System (QMS) documentation, including procedures, work instructions, and audit reports.
- Reviews contractual documentation to identify customer requirements and ensures appropriate flow down to ensure project compliance.
- Identify areas for improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities to resolve quality issues.
- Develop and implement inspection plans, test procedures, and sampling methodologies.
- Conduct first article inspections (FAI), in-process checks and final inspections to ensure product conformity.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure raw materials and components meet specifications.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to monitor and improve production processes.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret quality data using statistical tools (e.g., SPC, etc)
- Generate reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate quality trends and findings.
- Participate in internal, external, and supplier audits to assess compliance and identify risks.
- Support certification and regulatory audits by providing documentation and evidence of compliance.
- Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and perform Preproduction Parts Approval Process (PPAP).
- Collaborate with various departments to translate engineering designs, specifications, and concepts into product and service execution.
- Provide cross-functional support in reviewing and selecting suppliers.
- Train employees on quality standards, procedures, and best practices
- Assist in the design and validation of new products to ensure quality is built into the process
- Conduct risk assessments (e.g., FMEA) to mitigate potential quality issues.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of extensive experience in manufacturing and quality assurance environments.
- High proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- In-depth understanding of industry standards, market trends, and quality best practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, solid mathematical and data analysis capabilities.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related STEM field required, with 1–3 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
