Job Summary:
Velocity Machine is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our team. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for creating and maintaining detailed quality documentation and collaborating with the Quality, Engineering, and Production departments to ensure production requirements are met with precision and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
The Quality Engineer will perform the following duties. Note that responsibilities may be modified or additional duties assigned as needed:
New Part Quality Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including ballooned drawings, inspection check sheets, operator instructions, SPC charts, process flow diagrams, PFMEA, process control plans, dimensional layouts, part submission warrants, capability studies, and measurement system analyses.
CMM Program Review: Ensure CMM programs align with ballooned drawings, create CMM setup instructions as needed, and verify accuracy through program prove-outs.
Part Layouts: Conduct in-depth part layouts using CMMs and other layout techniques, documenting and reporting results.
Incoming Inspections: Perform casting, forging, or other supplied product inspections and layouts as required.
Standardized Inspections: Follow standardized procedures for first-piece, in-process, and final inspections across various customized parts.
Measurement System Analysis: Conduct gage R&R studies to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Non-Conformance Investigations: Investigate non-conformance issues and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Quality Awareness: Work with senior staff to promote quality awareness across the company by:
Mentoring employees on Quality Management System requirements and related international standards.
Providing shop floor guidance on customer quality requirements, gage techniques, and statistical process control.
Mentoring and Development: Train and develop subordinates to expand skill sets and foster cross-training within the team.
Additional Projects: Complete other projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Preferred: Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Quality Associate degree.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
Expertise in CMM programming, usage, and supporting software.
Knowledge of APQP, gauging, and metrology.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 requirements (preferred).
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams.
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit for extended periods.
Mobility to navigate the lab and manufacturing environments.
Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment:
Combination of lab and manufacturing environments.
Occasional travel to customer sites, including overnight stays as needed.
