Position: Shipboard Safety Inspector (Operations, Analyst)

Summary

The MIL Corporation is seeking a Shipboard Safety Inspector (Operations, Analyst) to support a US Navy client in San Diego, CA. The Safety Inspector will monitor Alteration Installation Team (AIT) safety compliance and support the government OSIC, as needed.

This position currently requires an on-site schedule, with 5 days on-site. Schedule is subject to change based on company/contract requirements.

Responsibilities

Conduct daily shipboard safety inspections and provide on-the-spot recommendations to correct unsatisfactory and unsafe conditions.

Ensure the AIT follows its Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, quality inspection and test plan, safety and environmental compliance requirements, and technical instructions.

Ensure the AIT complies with OSHA standards and NAVSEA Standard Items (SIs).

Observe trades at work, offering guidance and real-time solutions to promote compliance and worker protection.

Support the Corrective Action Request (CAR) process.

Maintain proper housekeeping and ESOH requirements.

Provide oversight of safety processes/procedures to ensure full regulatory compliance, including OSHA and local shipyard standards.

Produce daily written safety surveillance reports at the end of each shift for visited job sites.

Practice safe working techniques and reinforce safety policies and procedures.

Evaluate field safety conditions through audits/monitoring and advise management on findings, tracking corrections of deficiencies.

Conduct random site inspections and audits to ensure safety and quality compliance.

Travel

No travel expected.

Required Qualifications

3 Years of US Navy shipboard experience.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Must be able to lift items up to NIOSH limits.

Must be able to stand, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.

Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding.

Must be able to work in high places and confined spaces.

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with maritime safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, EPA, local/state rules).

OSHA 521, 3095, 3115, 7615 or 5410 certifications.

Shipyard Competent Person Certification.

Knowledge of NAVSEA TS.

Shipboard AIT and inspection experience.

Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items and Joint Fleece Maintenance Manual.

Education

HS Diploma or equivalent required;
Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

Clearance

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance; background checks including financial history will be considered.

Compensation
